Job summary

Gersh Academy, located in West Hempstead, NY, seeks a dedicated Special Education Teacher to lead instructional programs for students aged 5–21. You will communicate with families, adapt to IEP goals, and participate in CSE/IEP meetings in a year-round school setting.

Required NY State Teaching Certification and a Bachelor’s in Education/Special Education; ABA experience and assessment/report writing preferred. Position is full-time in-school.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in education or special education; certification required.
• Experience with ADHD, LD, HFA or related disabilities preferred.
• Experience in assessment and report writing preferred.
• Must be eligible for NY State teaching certification.

Responsibilities

• Lead daily instructional programs to drive student achievement in school.
• Communicate with parents/caretakers to support participation.
• Access trainings to use software tools for instruction.
• Use motivational strategies to engage students with appropriate resources.
• Provide daily/weekly lesson plans aligned to IEP goals.
• Record attendance and document lesson plan outcomes.
• Complete daily session notes detailing objectives and activities.
• Participate in CSE/IEP meetings and update IEP goals.
• Coach and mentor parents to support daily learning.
• Prepare resources, lesson plans and materials.
• Monitor student participation and report progress to supervisor/BCBA.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
