Job summary

County of Blair in Hollidaysburg, PA seeks an Assistant District Attorney to prosecute criminal matters from preliminary hearing through trial, including appeals. The attorney will review complaints, advise police, interview witnesses, select juries, file and litigate motions, and manage cases from charge to disposition.

Requirements include a JD, PA license, admission to Western District of PA, and child-protective-services clearances.

Qualifications

• Qualified applicants must possess a juris doctorate degree plus license to practice law in Pennsylvania; be registered as an attorney within the state; be admitted into the Western District of Pennsylvania; and have clearances compliant with child protective services laws.
• Prior work experience as a prosecutor is preferred; attorneys without prior experience will receive extensive training, up to 18 months, before they are able to try cases.
• Additional qualifications are fluency in English, effective interpersonal relations and communications skills (both written and verbal), attention to detail, time management, computer literacy, confidentiality, and skills in critical analysis related to identifying and solving problems, negotiations, and drafting contracts and agreements.

Responsibilities

• Review and approve criminal complaints and advise police on investigations.
• Interview and prepare witnesses and expert witnesses; examine and select juries.
• Litigate motions and represent defendants through trial and appeal processes.
• Attend preliminary conference, jury selection, and trial list reviews; negotiate settlements and draft briefs and legal documents.
