Opportunities exist in Appeals, Civil Litigation, Federal Litigation, PCRA, and in Trial Division units such as Municipal Court, Juvenile Court, Major Trials, Family Violence, and Homicide. New hires begin in Municipal Court and may advance to other units.

Candidates must have a J.D. from an accredited law school and must pass the Pennsylvania bar.

Qualifications

• All qualified candidates must have earned a J.D. from an accredited law school.
• Must sit and pass the Pennsylvania bar exam.
• Demonstrated commitment to public service and a strong academic record.
• Capacity for fairness and empathy, a strong work ethic, and an ability to manage a demanding workload.
• Sound problem-solving and decision-making skills.
• Attorneys completing judicial clerkships are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities

• Appeals: write briefs and argue before appellate courts.
• Civil Litigation: conduct discovery, review contracts, and practice employment law.
• Federal Litigation: litigate petitions for writs of habeas corpus in federal court.
• Post-Conviction Relief Act: review petitions for relief or to assign for dismissal.
