Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Phlebotomist to join our outpatient specimen collection team in Orange Park, FL. You will perform venipuncture and other specimen collections, ensuring accurate labeling and handling, while supporting workflow in a fast-paced clinical environment.

Responsibilities include matching requisitions to tubes, labeling and processing samples, and maintaining compliance with OSHA/DEP guidelines. The role is fully onsite with competitive pay and benefits.

Qualifications

• Valid phlebotomy certification for the state of employment.
• Minimum 6 months venipuncture experience in fast-paced lab or hospital.
• High school diploma or GED.
• 2–4 years overall experience in a medical or laboratory environment.
• Proficiency in phlebotomy techniques, including venipuncture and blood draws.
• Experience with specimen labeling, centrifuging, splitting, freezing, and packaging for transport.
• Knowledge of OSHA and DEP regulations and safety standards.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite for documentation.

Responsibilities

• Perform venipuncture and blood draws using straight needles and butterfly needles safely and efficiently.
• Collect and store blood, urine, fecal, and other specimens per procedures.
• Explain venipuncture process clearly to patients for understanding and comfort.
• Match requisitions to tubes and verify information for accuracy.
• Label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens per test orders.
• Check test requisitions against labels to ensure 100% accuracy.
• Package specimens for transport per procedures to maintain integrity.
• Store specimens at required temperatures and label containers correctly.
• Follow protocols to ensure specimens are suitable for transport and testing.
• Record maintenance data and perform decontamination as required.
• Update patient information and ensure documentation is complete in systems.
• Interpret physicians’ orders related to testing and collection.
• Answer calls and read results to satisfy inquiries and support patient care.
• Comply with OSHA/DEP regulations and safety standards.
• Attend annual trainings and stay current with updates.
• Troubleshoot collection or processing issues and suggest workflow improvements.
