Job summary

Teaching Matters in New York City is seeking a Literacy Instructional Coach for Middle School ELA (5th–8th). The role is on-site across NYC with per diem options and a full-time salary range.

The consultant will coach teachers and school leaders, develop coaching plans, and support culturally responsive pedagogy to close achievement gaps. The candidate should bring 3–4 years of Literacy Coaching plus 4 years of middle school ELA teaching, strong ELL/MML experience, and excellent collaboration

Qualifications

• Minimum 3-4 years experience as a Literacy Coach / Literacy Consultant, plus 4 years teaching Middle School ELA.
• Strong ELL / MML Experience.
• Strong content knowledge in Literacy with a lens to culturally responsive curriculum and pedagogy.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in achieving ambitious, measurable student results.
• Experience facilitating teacher teams to achieve student outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Coach teachers and administrators onsite in NYC schools.
• Develop customized instructional coaching plans based on needs assessments.
• Differentiate teacher support based on individual needs and mindset shifts.
• Facilitate teacher teams reviewing practice and data to identify inequitable practices.
• Guide school leaders in making systemic changes to improve collaboration and student outcomes.
