Job summary

DREAM is seeking a reliable, detail-oriented Assistant Coach to support our middle school athletics program at Highbridge in the Bronx. You will supervise practices, implement drills, and foster a positive, structured experience for student-athletes under the Head Coach.

The role requires 1–2 years coaching or youth program experience, strong communication, and a commitment to DREAM’s mission. Schedule is Monday–Thursday, 3–6pm, with occasional games at varied locations.

Qualifications

• 1-2+ years of coaching or youth program experience preferred.
• Experience working with school-age children required.
• Understanding of the sport’s rules and fundamentals required.
• Ability to effectively support youth development and behavior management.
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
• CPR/First Aid certification, a plus.
• Strong alignment with DREAM’s mission and values.

Responsibilities

• Support structured, high-quality practices and lead when head coach is unavailable.
• Execute drills and activities with energy, clarity, and attention to detail.
• Reinforce behavior, effort, and participation.
• Support youth development competencies: teamwork, sportsmanship, self-regulation.
• Monitor students' emotions, resolve conflicts, and meet team expectations.
• Model positive behavior and uphold team standards.
• Maintain active supervision at all times.
• Support arrival, transitions, and dismissal procedures.
• Ensure safety protocols are followed consistently and report concerns.
• Attend to attendance tracking for practices and games.
• Communicate with Head Coach regarding concerns or updates.
• Follow internal protocols on student eligibility, behavior, participation.
• Maintain professionalism in communication with students, staff, families.
• Support recruitment and engagement of athletes.
• Assist with game-day logistics and team management.
• Execute responsibilities with consistency, reliability, and attention to detail.
