Job summary

DREAM seeks a reliable Assistant Coach to support its middle school athletics program in East Harlem or the South Bronx. The role emphasizes supervision, practical drills, and maintaining a positive, structured player experience for all athletes.

You will report to the Dean of Student Life and work under the Head Coach. Typical schedule includes afternoons after school with games, and potential for additional duties within DREAM’s athletics team.

Qualifications

• 1–2+ years of coaching or youth program experience.
• Experience working with school-age children.
• Understanding of the sport’s rules and fundamentals.
• Ability to support youth development and behavior management.
• Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
• CPR/First Aid certification, a plus.
• Strong alignment with DREAM’s mission and values.

Responsibilities

• Support structured, high-quality practices and lead when head coach is unavailable.
• Execute drills and activities with energy and clarity.
• Reinforce expectations for behavior, effort, and participation.
• Reinforce youth development competencies: teamwork, sportsmanship, self-regulation.
• Maintain active supervision at all times and ensure safety protocols are followed.
• Assist with attendance tracking for practices and games and communicate with the Head Coach.
• Coordinate game-day logistics and team management.
