Job summary

DREAM is seeking a high-capacity, student-centered Head Coach for our East Harlem middle school competitive team. The on-site role focuses on team culture, athlete development, safety, and program execution during practices and games.

The position reports to the Dean of Student Life and oversees on-site leadership, adherence to DREAM policies, and youth development standards. Practices are held at the school with some activities in surrounding areas, Mon–Thu 3–6pm.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of coaching experience for middle school strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to lead youth programs with structure, accountability, and care.
• Strong understanding of the sport’s rules and strategy.
• Experience working with school-age children is required.
• CPR/First Aid certification is a plus.
• Strong alignment with DREAM’s mission and values.

Responsibilities

• Lead team culture with clear expectations for behavior, effort, and sportsmanship.
• Establish a structured, positive environment rooted in DREAM values.
• Model professionalism, preparedness, and sound judgment at all times.
• Develop athletes in teamwork, sportsmanship, and self-regulation through practices, games, and study halls.
• Provide proactive behavior management and positive discipline.
• Oversee study halls and ensure academics meet expectations.
• Design and submit high-quality, structured practice plans.
• Lead game-day strategy, roster management, and team readiness.
• Maintain safety and supervise participants at all times.
• Communicate with Athletics Director regarding attendance and incidents.
• Recruit and engage athletes; manage rosters and family communications.
