Job summary

Newton Public Schools’ Bigelow Middle School in Newton, Massachusetts is seeking an Assistant Coach for Middle School Cross Country. You will instruct athletes in fundamentals, develop strategy and physical training to promote individual and team success while fostering values, discipline and sportsmanship.

The role reports to the Athletic Director and School Principal and requires a Bachelor’s degree, CPR certification, and prior coaching experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.

Responsibilities

• Complies with school and MIAA policies and regulations.
• Complies with school and Conference/League policies and regulations.
• Works cooperatively with the school staff.
• Relates positively to parents and other community representatives.
• Completes required records and reports with promptness and accuracy.
• Assumes responsibility for care of equipment and facilities.
• Assumes responsibility for a safe environment for student athletes.
• Models positive behaviors, especially with regard to sportsmanship and the alcohol, tobacco and drug rules.
• Delegates staff assignments to assistant coaches.
• Develops and organizes practice program.
• Evaluates assistant coaches and playing personnel.
• Plans and develops game responsibilities.
• Conducts and analyzes scouting reports.
• Assists student athletes in college advancement.
• Maintains and inventories all equipment and supplies.
• Acts as liaison person in relating the athletic program to the staff, administration, general public, and local news media.
• Responsible for implementing “other job related duties” as needed.
