Job summary

Covenant Day School in Matthews, NC seeks a long-term middle and high school band substitute teacher to cover 6th–8th and 9th–12th grade bands from September through November 2026. The position is temporary and salaried (exempt), reporting to the fine arts director.

The successful candidate will integrate biblical worldview, use technology to support lessons, manage student progress and behavior, and communicate with families, all while modeling Christian principles within a collaborative fine

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
• Teaching experience or band directing experience highly desirable.
• Understanding of teaching with biblical worldview and integration.
• Committed follower of Jesus Christ.
• Ability to connect with middle and high school youth.
• Excellent verbal and written communication.
• Willingness to work collaboratively.
• Proficiency with classroom technology.

Responsibilities

• Teach band courses as assigned, selecting instructional resources with class and student needs.
• Regularly incorporate biblical integration and worldview into teaching content.
• Use various technologies to support classroom learning.
• Deliver lesson plans and communicate learning goals for activities.
• Prepare classroom and materials for activities.
• Observe student progress and assist with preparation for performances.
• Manage and guide student behavior and provide feedback on progress.
• Communicate with parents regarding student needs and progress.
• Model Christian service and principles to students and colleagues.
• Other duties as assigned by the fine arts director.
