Job summary

College of Charleston seeks an Adjunct Instructor of Spanish or Portuguese to teach in-person introductory language courses on our historic downtown Charleston campus. This part-time, non-tenure track role covers SPAN 101–SPAN 202, with occasional Portuguese offerings such as PORT 101/102/201/202 or PORT 150/250.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in Spanish, Portuguese, Hispanic Studies, Luso-Brazilian Studies, Spanish Linguistics, or a closely related field.
• At least 18 graduate credit hours in Spanish or Portuguese.
• Professional fluency in Spanish or Portuguese and English.
• Teaching experience at the postsecondary level, particularly in beginning Spanish or Portuguese language courses.

Responsibilities

• Teach in-person introductory-level language courses (SPAN 101–SPAN 202).
• Occasionally teach PORT courses (PORT 101, PORT 102, PORT 201, PORT 202 or PORT 150/PORT 250).
• Part-time, non-tenure track position for Fall semester with potential renewal based on needs and performance.
