Job summary

Housatonic Valley Regional High School in Falls Village, CT is seeking a Short-Term Substitute High School English Teacher for approximately 60 consecutive workdays. The role is a full-time 1.0 FTE temporary leave replacement, serving grades 9-12 and focused on literacy instruction and student achievement.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred and willingness to obtain CT education waiver if needed.
• Knowledge of English language arts, literacy instruction, and classroom management.
• Experience with high school students and ability to differentiate instruction.
• Ability to communicate with students, parents, and colleagues and maintain records.
• Must complete required background checks and pre-employment requirements.

Responsibilities

• Set goals for student achievement aligned with curriculum and school improvement plans.
• Collaborate with colleagues to support student success.
• Advocate for students' diverse needs and serve as a positive role model.
• Plan daily instructional activities tailored to individual students.
• Select materials to engage all learners and meet standards.
• Demonstrate knowledge of subject matter and CT Core Standards.
• Develop formative and summative assessments and use data to adjust instruction.
• Create a data-driven, learner-centered, safe learning environment.
• Maintain classroom order and professional behavior with stakeholders.
• Monitor student progress and communicate with families regularly.
