Job summary

Sanford Health is seeking an experienced fitness instructor to lead a range of classes in our rural health system. You will motivate participants, choreograph routines, and ensure safe, effective instruction across varied ages and fitness levels.

Responsibilities include operating audio equipment, keeping classes on schedule, and supporting gym and pool areas. BLS certification and a supervisor-approved fitness certification within one year are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Background in physical education preferred.
• Experience in exercise, fitness, and aerobics classes preferred.
• Meeting continuing education requirements of applicable certification organization is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required within six months of hire.
• Additionally, a fitness certification approved by immediate supervisor is required within one year of hire into the position.

Responsibilities

• Instruct fitness classes and motivate participants of varying abilities using safe, biomechanically sound methods.
• Operate stereo and microphone equipment during classes.
• Choreograph fitness routines and class layouts.
• Adapt instruction to different ages and fitness levels.
• Help class members and manage time to keep classes on schedule.
• Maintain positive working relationships with team, members, and the public.
• Assist in cleaning locker rooms, fitness areas, and pool area as needed.
• Act calmly and effectively in emergency situations; may serve as lifeguard for some classes and shifts.

Education

High school diploma or equivalent

Background in physical education

Experience in exercise, fitness, and aerobics classes

Continuing education requirements of applicable certification organization

BLS certification within six months of hire

Fitness certification approved by immediate supervisor within one year of hire
