Job summary

The Vermont Office of the Attorney General, Department for Children and Families, Family Services Legal Division, has an immediate opening for an energetic and talented full-time Assistant Attorney General who will represent the Department before the Human Services Board and VT courts. Responsibilities include litigating Family Division cases, handling administrative appeals, contract review, and training family service workers.

Travel statewide is required; located in Waterbury, VT.

Qualifications

  • Must be a member in good standing of the Vermont bar, or eligible to waive in.
  • Three years of relevant experience preferred, but newly admitted attorneys are welcome to apply.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work as part of a team.

Responsibilities

  • Litigate Family Division cases before Vermont Superior Courts.
  • Represent the Department in administrative appeals before the Human Services Board.
  • Perform contract review and related administrative legal work.
  • Train family service workers in the litigation process.
  • Travel across the state as required.
