Western Veterinary Partners invites veterinary students to apply for externships across its nationwide network of practices. externships provide real-world experience by applying classroom learning in a clinic setting, with opportunities in small animal, mixed animal, dental, exotics, and more.

Our externship program emphasizes mentorship by supervising veterinarians and exposure to case management, client communication, and in-house diagnostics.

Qualifications

• Veterinary students in any grade can apply for an externship
• Externships align with clinical year externship blocks or informal externship experience

Responsibilities

• Work closely with supervising veterinarian to gain experience in practice management, including client communication, taking histories, performing physical exams, reviewing estimates, and creating treatment plans
• Ownership of cases by developing treatment plans, diagnostics, and in-house lab work
• Observe/assist or perform surgical procedures including dental procedures
• Develop skills in time management, record keeping, and relationship building with medical team and clients
