Job summary

Sarah’s Inn seeks a Community Advocate for the DV Co‑Located Program to support child welfare interventions and domestic violence survivors. You will consult with professionals, assess risk, and coordinate safety-focused interventions for families.

Responsibilities include direct advocacy, crisis line coverage during business hours and on‑call support, and collaboration with DCFS and partner organizations to improve safety and well‑being for both adults and children involved in the child welfare

Qualifications

  • BA degree and/or equivalent experience required.
  • One year or more experience providing direct service advocacy on behalf of victims of domestic violence and their families preferred.
  • One year or more experience providing counseling, advocacy, and/or case management services to families (volunteer and internship experiences included) preferred.
  • One year or more experience working with or within the child welfare system preferred.
  • One year or more experience in coordination of services and development of community partnerships preferred.
  • Completion of an Illinois Certified 40-Hour Domestic Violence Training preferred or required to complete within two months of employment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide consultation to child welfare professionals.
  • Provide guidance on questions for the child welfare worker to ask and information to gather.
  • Identify each parent/adult as either the adult survivor or parent using violence and coercive control.
  • Provide expertise in identifying perpetrator patterns, dynamics, and safety risks.
  • Identify potential safety strategies and protective factors.
  • Coordinate responsibilities with the team to meet client needs.
  • Update client files and case notes in a timely and accurate manner.
