Job summary

is seeking a PRN Dual Modality Technologist to perform diagnostic X-rays, CT and fluoroscopy with a focus on patient care and safety. The role is based in the XRay/MRI department, supporting physician requests and imaging across modalities.

Strong multi-modality experience and ARRT/ARRT credentials are expected. The candidate will position patients, adjust exposure factors, protect against radiation, and document procedures in the EMR.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology or Associates Degree in Radiology Studies.
• Licensed by the Texas Medical Board as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT).
• Registered MRI Technologist by ARRT (MR) or MR credentials by ARRT.
• ARMRIT certification for MR technologists is preferred.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
• Two or more years of multi-modality imaging experience.

Responsibilities

• Perform X-ray, CT and fluoroscopy imaging per physician request.
• Position patients and adjust equipment to obtain quality images while minimizing exposure.
• Adhere to infection-control policies and radiation safety practices.
• Document patient care services and transfer images to EMR.

Townsen Memorial Hospitalis looking for a PRN Dual Modality Technologist join our team!

SUMMARY:

The Dual Modality Technologist is responsible for performing quality imaging through the application of advanced technical knowledge while maintaining strict attention to patient care. This role is responsible for the provision of Imaging Services to include the specialty areas of routine diagnostic x-rays, portable x-rays and fluoroscopy. The Technologist works in the XRay/MRI department performing physician requested X-Ray/MRI images.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

X-Ray

• Prepare patient for radiological procedure by positioning patient; adjusting immobilization devices; moving equipment into specified position; adjusting equipment controls to set exposure factors.
• Gain patient cooperation by reducing anxieties; providing explanations of treatment; answering questions.
• Minimize radiation to patient and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices, patient shielding, and knowledge of exposure factors.
• Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols and following drug protocols in case of reactions to drugs, such as contrast media, administering first aid, and using the emergency cart.
• Maintain production and quality of radiographs by following established standards and procedures; developing radiographs; observing radiographic results; making necessary adjustments.
• Document patient care services by charting in patient and department records.
• Ensure operation of radiology equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs; maintaining equipment inventories; evaluating new equipment and techniques.
• Maintain radiology supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies.
• Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.

Computed Tomography

• Sets up and operate radiographic equipment used in the medical diagnosis and/or treatment of patients
• Selects proper ionizing factors for radiologic diagnosis
• Positions patient and set up and adjust equipment to obtain the best quality x-ray of the specific body area requested by the physician
• Takes preventative steps to minimize radiation exposure to the patient and fellow staff
• Adjusts and sets radiographic controls, such as kilovoltage and milliamperage, to prescribed specifications for proper timing of exposure
• Regulates the length and intensity of film exposure
• Positions and restrains patients; and takes X-rays of patients’ chest, limbs, or other body parts as requested by the physicians
• Checks X-ray for clarity of image, and retakes X-rays when needed

Operations

• Distributes films to appropriate medical staff and transfer images to electronic medical records (EMR)
• Maintains quantity and quality control checks to assure equipment meets standards required by laws, rules, and facility policy
• Cleans, maintains, and makes minor adjustments to equipment, including determining repairs needed to equipment
• Maintains supplies, film, and equipment
• Assures that all materials and other required equipment, are present and in working orderFollows all safety rules on the job. Reports all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards. Communicates with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

• Knowledge of the principles and practices of diagnostic radiographic procedures
• Knowledge of basic chemistry, film apparatus, and film processing techniques
• Knowledge of how disease and injuries are diagnosed and imaged radiographically
• Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work
• Knowledge of human anatomy
• Knowledge of computer and relevant software applications
• Strong attention to detail: being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks
• Ability to work independently by guiding oneself with little or no supervision, and depending one oneself to get things done
• Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology or Associates Degree in Radiology Studies
• Licensed by the Medical State Board of Texas as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT)
• Registered MRI Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-MR); or
• Registered Radiological Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT MR), and
• Registered MRI Technologist by the American Registry of Magnetic Resonance Imaging Technologists (ARMRIT)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
• Two (2) years of experience in more than one specialty modality
