Job summary

Townsen Memorial Surgery Center - River Oaks in Houston, TX is seeking a full-time Radiologic Technologist OR to join our imaging team. This role involves operating radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment in the OR, with emphasis on safety and accuracy.

The ideal candidate is a graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program, holds a Texas MRT license and ARRT certification, and has BLS. A minimum of 2 years radiology experience, including operating room exposure, is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program or an associates degree in radiology.
  • Licensed by the Texas Medical Board as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT).
  • Certified by ARRT and BLS certified.
  • Minimum 2 years radiology experience, with operating room exposure.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain sterile field and implement best practices in the operating room.
  • Operate radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment as directed by physicians.
  • Apply radiation safety measures to protect patients and staff.
  • Position patients and obtain quality X-rays for requested views.
  • Transfer images to EMR and distribute to medical staff.
  • Perform QA/QC checks and report equipment issues.
  • Maintain patient records accurately and ensure timely flow.

Townsen Memorial Surgery Center - River Oaks is looking for a full-time Radiologic Technologist OR to join our team!

SUMMARY

The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for preparing and operating radiographic, X-ray and fluoroscopic equipment used in the medical diagnosis and/or treatment of patients under the direction of the Physician/Surgeon.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Maintain sterile field and implements best practices while in the operating room
  • Assure all materials (radiographic supplies, proper ionizing factors, film) and other required equipment, are present and in working order
  • Adjust and set radiographic controls, such as kilovoltage and milliamperage, to prescribed specifications for proper timing and intensity of exposure
  • Minimize radiation to patients and staff by practicing radiation protection techniques, using beam restrictive devices and patient shielding
  • Position patient and adjust equipment to obtain the best quality X-ray of specific body area (chest, limbs, or other body part) requested by the physician
  • Examine X-ray for clarity of image, and retake X-rays when needed
  • Distribute films to appropriate medical staff and transfer images to electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Conduct quantity and quality control checks to assure X-ray unit meets standards required by laws, rules, and facility policy
  • Complete minor adjustments to equipment and schedule necessary repairs
  • Maintain production and quality of imaging procedures by following established standards and procedures.
  • Report all accidents promptly and corrects minor safety hazards
  • Communicate with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace
  • Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols
  • Protect patient and family privacy rights and maintains confidentiality of patient records in accordance with HIPAA requirements, policy and procedure
  • Follow all safety rules and adheres to the company standards of business conduct
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of human anatomy
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of diagnostic radiographic procedures
  • Knowledge of basic chemistry, film apparatus, and film processing techniques
  • Knowledge of how disease and injuries are diagnosed and imaged radiographically
  • Knowledge of exposure factors, occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Knowledge of computer and MS Office suite
  • Strong communication and attention to detail skills
  • Ability to perform high quality radiology procedures according to exam protocol in a timely manner
  • Ability to set up and operate radiographic and fluoroscopic equipment
  • Ability to lift and position patients for the type of X-ray procedure
  • Ability to maintain accurate patient records and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow
  • Ability to respond quickly, physically, and mentally when priorities and /or the patient’s condition changes
  • Ability to maintain a calm and helpful attitude, even under times of stress, and take appropriate and reasonable steps to resolve issues
  • Ability to maintain self-composure, keep emotions in check, control anger and avoid aggressive behavior, even in difficult situationsAbility to adapt with flexibility, being open to change (positive or negative) and to considerable variety in the workplace
  • Ability to work independently by guiding oneself with little or no supervision, and depending one oneself to get things done
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology or Associates Degree in Radiology Studies
  • Licensed by the Medical State Board of Texas as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT)
  • Certified by American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certifiedTwo (2) years of radiology experience in a healthcare facility (with one year in the operating room)
