Job summary

Townsen Memorial Hospital Imaging is seeking a full-time MRI Technologist in Texas to join our diagnostic imaging team. You will prepare patients, position them, set imaging parameters, perform processing, and ensure high-quality MRI images for physician review.

The role requires active MRT/ARRT registration and at least 1 year of MRI experience, with strong attention to safety, patient comfort, and cleanliness. A Texas license and BLS are mandatory.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiologic Technology program or AS degree in radiology.
  • Licensed by the Texas Medical Board as an MRT.
  • Registered MRI Technologist (ARRT-MR) or ARRT-R eligible.
  • Minimum 1 year MRI technologist experience in healthcare.
  • BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Operate MRI scanners and perform imaging studies for diagnosis.
  • Position patients and adjust equipment for best image quality.
  • Screen patients for metal and ensure safety during procedures.
  • Explain MRI process and address patient concerns clearly.
  • Transfer images to EMR and distribute to medical staff.
  • Maintain QA checks and ensure unit meets safety standards.
  • Troubleshoot peripherals to minimize downtime.
  • Maintain equipment, supplies, and infection control procedures.
  • Protect patient privacy and HIPAA compliance.

About this Position

Townsen Memorial Imaging - Med Center is looking for a Full‑Time MRI Technologist to join our team!

Summary: The MRI Technologist is responsible for performing magnetic resonance imaging studies using a magnetic resonance device that includes preparing patients, positioning, setting imaging parameters, performing computer processing, and displaying images. The technologist selects appropriate imaging protocol for patient studies, performs quality assurance scans as required, and demonstrates the ability to work cohesively as a team member within the MRI Department.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Set up and operate MRI scanners used in the medical diagnosis and/or treatment of patients
  • Ensure the procedure produces quality images and information for the health care professional to make an accurate diagnosis
  • Position patient and set up and adjust equipment to obtain the best quality MRI image of the specific body area requested by the physician
  • Takes preventative steps to ensure safety of patients and fellow staff
  • Takes extra care to screen all patients to make sure patients do NOT have any metal in or on the patient's body
  • Address patient concerns during the procedure, and explain the MRI process to the patient in a way that is informative but also reassuring
  • Position and restrain patients; and take MRI of patients' chest, limbs, or other body parts as requested by the physicians
  • Implements infection control procedures for the work area
  • Check MRI for clarity of image, and retake MRI when needed
  • Distribute films to appropriate medical staff and transfer images to electronic medical records (EMR)
  • Maintain quantity and quality control checks to assure MRI unit meets standards required by laws, rules, and facility policy
  • Perform MRI procedures for patients in surgery or at outpatient imaging departments
  • Cleans, maintains, and makes minor adjustments to MRI equipment, including determining repairs needed to equipment
  • Troubleshoot peripheral equipment and scanners to ensure that equipment is operating properly to avoid downtime or delays that affect patient satisfaction
  • Protect patient and other personnel from any metal exposure
  • Maintain radiographic supplies, film, and equipment
  • Assure that all materials and other required equipment are present and in working order
  • Follow all safety rules on the job. Report all accidents promptly and correct minor safety hazards.
  • Communicate with peers and management regarding any hazards identified in the workplace
  • Protect patient and family privacy rights and maintain confidentiality of patient records in accordance with policy and procedure and HIPAA requirements
  • Adhere to the company standards of business conduct
  • Perform other duties as assigned as per discretion of medical provider and facility
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of diagnostic radiographic procedures
  • Knowledge of basic chemistry, film apparatus, and film processing techniques
  • Knowledge of how disease and injuries are diagnosed and imaged radiographically
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions applicable to the work
  • Knowledge of human anatomy
  • Knowledge of computer and relevant software applications
  • Strong attention to detail: being careful about detail and thorough in completing work tasks
  • Ability to work independently by guiding oneself with little or no supervision, and depending on oneself to get things done
  • Ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology or Associate’s Degree in Radiology Studies
  • Licensed by the Medical State Board of Texas as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (MRT)
  • Registered MRI Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-MR); or
  • Registered Radiological Technologist by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT-R)
  • One (1) year of experience as a MRI Technologist in a healthcare setting
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification
