Job summary

Central Virginia Community College seeks a part-time Community College Counselor at the Amherst Center to support dual enrollment students with academic advising, course planning, and personal development. The Amherst Center plays a pivotal role in student success and pathways toward transfer.

The counselor collaborates with faculty, high school counselors, career coaches, and the dual enrollment coordinator to deliver orientations, the Student Success course, and recruitment and retention

Qualifications

• Coursework in Counseling, Education, Psychology, or a related field is required.
• Experience in academic advising, counseling, or student support services.
• Familiarity with dual enrollment programs and community college environments is advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Provide individualized academic advising for course selection and educational planning.
• Monitor student progress and intervene to promote academic success.
• Teach and facilitate the Student Success course for incoming Early College students.
• Organize orientation programs for new students and their parents; develop workshops.
• Maintain communication with high school counselors, career coaches, and the dual enrollment coordinator.
