Job summary

The New School is seeking DT Study Tutors to support MFA and BFA Design & Technology students through personalized, peer-to-peer tutoring across DT topics. You'll conduct one-on-one sessions, offer walk-in help, and assist via Discord, with emphasis on understanding concepts and problem-solving rather than just giving answers.

This hybrid role offers an hourly rate of $29.20 and a typical schedule of about 2.5 hours per week.

Qualifications

• Current student in the MFA or BFA Design & Technology program
• Strong academic standing with proficiency in one or more DT subject areas
• Excellent verbal and written communication with ability to explain concepts clearly
• High reliability, punctuality, and professional schedule management
• Proficiency with Google Workspace, Discord, and Zoom
• Collaborative and empathetic approach to peer learning

Responsibilities

• Conduct one-on-one tutoring sessions (in-person and remote) tailored to student goals
• Manage tutoring schedule using Google Calendar; remote sessions via designated platform
• Provide walk-in support at the DT Study table and assist with quick questions
• Monitor and respond to student inquiries on Discord servers during shifts
• Offer clear explanations to develop problem-solving skills and conceptual understanding
• Maintain a positive, inclusive, professional learning environment
• Adhere to session protocols, including 1-hour sessions and priority system
