Job summary

CCAR in Charleston, IL is seeking a DSP Training Mentor to support direct care staff in our Residential Program. You will guide new DSPs through the DHS-DDD mandated training curriculum and coordinate on-the-job training with the Residential team.

Responsibilities include initial orientation, ongoing mentoring, and developing resources to improve training quality. The role may involve occasional DSP shifts and on-call duties in the Charleston-Mattoon area.

Qualifications

• Must provide proof of GED or high school diploma
• Must have a valid driver’s license
• At least two years of DSP experience or comparable I/DD field experience
• Previous supervisory, teaching, or training experience preferred
• Must pass criminal and DCFS background checks
• Must reside within 20 miles of Charleston
• CPR/First Aid certification required
• Must pass S-TOFHLA
• Must complete medication administration training and recertifications

Responsibilities

• Provide initial orientation to DSP training curriculum and schedule on-the-job assignments
• Collaborate with Residential team to provide on-the-job training in group homes
• Develop rapport with new employees through site visits
• Observe and review new employee performance and documentation
• Respond to DSP training requests and support
• Assist in scheduling training based on quality assurance inputs
• Help immerse new DSPs in agency culture
• Seek feedback to improve training relevance and materials
• May fill a DSP shift or assist with scheduling when needed

BRIEF DESCRIPTION

The DSP Training Mentor will assist Direct Support Personnel (DSPs) in our Residential Program as they develop their workplace skills. The Training Mentor will provide guidance during the first six months of the DSPs' employment with additional training as needed. This position will work closely with other program staff to coordinate training and mentoring opportunities.

SCHEDULE

This is a permanent, full-time position on Tuesday - Saturday from Midnight until 8:30 am or Noon until 9 pm with rotating on-call responsibilities

The DSP Training Mentor is assigned a cellular phone to use for on-the-clock, work-related purposes.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be able to provide proof of a GED or high school diploma from an accredited institution
• A valid driver’s license
• At least two years of experience as a Direct Support Person or possess comparable experience in the I/DD field
• Previous supervisory, teaching, or training experience is preferred
• Must pass a criminal background check, as required by the Healthcare Worker Background Check Act (225 ILCS 46), and a DCFS Child Abuse and Neglect background check
• Must reside in the Charleston/Mattoon area or within 20 miles of Charleston.
• Successfully complete and maintain American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR/First Aid certification
• Must pass the Short Test of Functional Health Literacy in Adults (S-TOFHLA)
• Successfully complete medication administration training and annual recertifications to maintain medication administration status

JOB DUTIES

Initial Mentoring

• Provide an initial orientation to the DHS-DDD mandated DSP training curriculum and schedule OJT assignments
• Collaborate with the Residential team to provide on-the-job training within the group homes
• Develop a rapport with the new employees through contacts such as worksite visits
• Observe new employee performance and review documentation

On-Going Mentoring

• Respond to DSP requests for additional training and support
• Aid DSPs in problem-solving ways to meet work expectations to maintain employment
• Schedule and/or provide training based upon identified needs from quality assurance processes
• Assist the Scheduling/Training Coordinator with scheduling DSPs for training
• Work as part of the Residential team to facilitate the immersion of new DSPs into the agency culture

Improving Quality of the Training Experience

• Obtain input from DSPs regarding the relevancy of current DSP training and how the training can be modified to better meet their needs
• Provide training resources that are relevant to the changing needs of individuals

Program Responsibilities and Duties

• May be assigned to fill a shift working as a DSP in the homes as needed or to occasionally assist in scheduling staff
• Carry the on-call cell phone for the Program in a rotation with other program staff, staying within the Charleston-Mattoon area when on-call

WAGES

$20.25 per hour with a $0.50 per hour increase after training

PAY SCHEDULE

Every two weeks with direct deposit available upon request
