Job summary

Catholic Charities, Diocese of Paterson is seeking a Direct Support Professional for a 23‑hour per week role in our group homes in New Jersey. You will help meet residents' personal health, safety and welfare, assist with daily living activities and support medication administration.

This part-time position offers paid training, medical/dental, life insurance, flexible spending accounts, and generous PTO to support our dedicated team.

Qualifications

• Be motivated to work as part of a team that acts in the best interest of residents.
• Experience with ID/DD population is a plus.
• HS diploma or equivalent.
• A valid (non-provisional) driver’s license.
• Ability to meet the physical requirements of CPR/First Aid and emergency evacuation procedures.

Responsibilities

• Residential Counselor is a direct care professional whose primary responsibility is to help meet the personal health, safety and welfare of the people living in the group home.
• Assist with personal care tasks and daily living activities; participate in cleaning, cooking and life skills as needed.
• Administer and/or assist with medication administration.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers and the individuals living in the homes.
• Drive residents to/from day programs, within their community using agency vehicles.
• Document services provided on a daily basis.
• Assist with fun community based activities.

Regular Salary: $20.49 per hour Mon-Fri and $21.49 per hour (shifts beginning 11PM Friday to 11PM on Sunday). Non-work time will be paid at the base rate.

What’s the role of a Direct Support Professional/Residential Counselor (DSP)?

• Residential Counselor is a direct care professional whose primary responsibility is to help meet the personal health, safety and welfare of the people living in the group home.
• You will assist and/or supervise individuals in personal care areas i.e. bathing/toileting; participate and/or supervise in cleaning, cooking and life skills.
• Administer and/or assist with medication administration.
• You must communicate effectively with supervisors, co-workers and the individuals living in the homes.
• Drive residents to/from day programs, outside/within their community using agency vehicles.
• This position requires daily documentation of services provided.
• Assist with fun community based activities

All staff must attend a monthly Staff Meeting – date/time to be determined and announced in advance

Meeting waivers are provided for conflicts due to secondary employment and/or school (appropriate documentation required)
