Easter Seals Southern California, Inc. is seeking a direct-care professional to support residents with disabilities in a Long Beach residential facility.

Under supervision, you will provide personal care, assist with daily living skills, and help with meals and mobility while ensuring safety and dignity for each resident. The role requires a HS diploma, DSP-I/II certifications, CPR and First Aid, CPI as applicable, and 1–2 years of related experience.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma typically required.
  • DSP-I and DSP-II Certification required.
  • CPR, CPI and First Aid Certifications.
  • 1-2 years’ experience or equivalent training/education.

Responsibilities

  • Attend to residents' personal care and daily living skills.
  • Assist in planning daily activities to develop living skills per IPP/ISP goals.
  • Administer and monitor medications, including suppositories.
  • Assist with meals, dietary restrictions, and potential G-tube feeding.
  • Transport residents to appointments and activities.
  • Complete reports and required documentation daily.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Then apply now!Starting pay: $20.00 per hourOVERVIEW OF POSITION: Under direct supervision, attends to the personal care of residents living in the residential facility. Assists in the planning and coordination of daily activities to facilitate development of living skills for residents.ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:Conducts daily activities to assist in the development of living skills, consistent with the residents’ Individual Program Plan (IPP) and Individual Support Plan (ISP) goalsAssists in the administration and monitoring of medications, which may include suppositoriesProvides personal care for residents which may include assistance with eating, personal hygiene, showering, restroom assistance, and preparing for bedtime.Assists in care and cleaning of residential home, which includes laundering & ironing of residents’ clothingAssists and/or prepares meals in compliance with dietary restrictions; assists individuals to eat, including those who may require assistance with G-tube feedingTransports individuals to health care appointments and other various locationsCompletes all necessary reports and documentation on a daily basisPerforms other duties as assignedEDUCATION:Typically requires HS diploma.DSP-I and DSP-II Certification required.Valid CPR, CPI and First Aid Certifications.EXPERIENCE:1-2 years’ experience; or equivalent combination of training, education, and experience to perform the job successfully.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:Ability to communicate well orally and in writing; Ability to interpret and carry out written and/or oral instructionsAbility to consistently demonstrate good judgment and decision-making skills; Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality pertaining to the work environmentAbility to pass post-offer medical examination and test for tuberculosisAble to obtain and maintain a criminal record/fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation per Easter Seals Southern California and/or program requirementsAbility to travel locally with vehicle appropriate for the transportation of residents; maintain driving record in compliance with Transportation Safety Standards. Must possess and maintain proper auto insurance and vehicle registrationAbility to provide assistance with personal care to residents and to transfer an individual who has no weight bearing skills. Ability to lift up to 70 pounds repetitively. Ability to walk, stand, stoop, and kneel for extended periods of time. Ability to push/pull wheelchairs on a variety of terrainCarrying/Lifting: Occasional/ 0-70lbsStanding: Occasional/ Up to 3 hours per daySitting: Constant/ Up to 8 hours per dayWalking: Occasional/ Up to 3 hours per dayRepetitive Motion/Activity: Keyboard activity, telephone use, writing.Visual Acuity: Ability to view computer monitor and read newsprint.Travel: LocallyEnvironmental Exposure: Exposure to unpleasant or hazardous working conditions(noise, heat, dust, bodily fluids, etc.)
