Job summary

Easter Seals Southern California, Inc. is seeking a dedicated caregiver to support adults with developmental disabilities in a licensed residential home.

The role focuses on daily living assistance, personal care, and participation in treatment plans to promote independence. Responsibilities include meal support (including G-tube where needed), medication administration, and maintaining accurate documentation.

Qualifications

• 1–2 years of experience in licensed residential setting with medical fragile adults.
• DSP-I and DSP-II Certification required or must be obtained within the first year.
• CPR, CPI and First Aid certifications required or must be maintained.
• Familiarity with IPP/ISP plans and medication administration.
• Ability to pass background checks and driving record requirements.

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care to adults with developmental disabilities in a residential home.
• Assist with meals, including those requiring G-tube feeding, and daily living activities.
• Administer and monitor medications as prescribed.
• Perform housekeeping and laundering for residents.
• Engage residents in daily activities per IPP/ISP goals and document progress.
• Complete required reports, attend meetings and trainings, and maintain records.
• Transport residents using company vehicle when needed and accompany outdoor activities.

Comp rate starts at $20/hr.OVERVIEW OF POSITION: Attends to the personal care of adults with developmental disabilities living in a licensed residential home. Assists and participates in the planning, coordination and delivery of daily living activities; including outings, to facilitate development of living skills for the residents and help them achieve a higher level of independence.ESSENTIAL FUNCTION:Provides personal care for residents which may include assistance with eating, personal hygiene, showering, restroom assistance, and preparing for bedtime. Assists and/or prepares meals incompliance with dietary restrictions; assists individuals to eat, including those who may require assistance with G-tube feeding.Assists in the administration and monitoring of medications.Assists in care and cleaning of residential home, which includes housekeeping, & laundering of residents’ clothing.Conducts daily activities to assist in the development of the residents’ living skills, consistent with their Individual Program Plan (IPP) and Individual Support Plan (ISP) goals. Provides continuous active treatment and engagement.Completes all required reports and documentation on a daily basis. Attends all necessary staff meetings and completes all required mandatory trainings.May use company provided vehicle to transport individuals to health care appointments and other various locations. Participates in recreational activities in a variety of settings.Performs other duties as assignedEDUCATION:Typically requires High School Diploma, GED, or national equivalent.DSP-I and DSP-II Certification required or must be attained within first year of hire or first year in position.Must possess and maintain valid CPR, CPI and First Aid Certifications.EXPERIENCE:1 to 2 years’ experience, or equivalent combination of training, education and experience to perform the job successfully.1-year minimum experience in a licensed residential setting working with medical fragile adults with developmental disabilities and/or behavioral issues.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:Familiarity with charting, medication administration, and positive behavior support.Working knowledge of behavioral issues, including aggressive, non-verbal and self-injury behaviors.Working knowledge and understanding of Individual Program Plans and Individual Service Plans.Working knowledge of Regional Center, Department of Developmental Services, Title 17 and 22.Ability to communicate well orally and in writing; Ability to interpret and carry out written and/or oral instructions.Able to work in indoor and outdoor settings, arrange and participate in outdoor activities with residents of the residential home.Ability to consistently demonstrate good judgment and decision-making skills; Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality pertaining to the work environment.Ability to pass post-offer medical examination and test for tuberculosis.Able to obtain and maintain a criminal record/fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation per Easter Seals Southern California and/or program requirements.If applicable, able to possess and maintain driving record in compliance with Transportation Safety Standards, and valid California driver’s license; maintain proper auto insurance and vehicle registration.Carrying/Lifting: Occasional / 0-50 lbs.Standing: Occasional / Up to 3 hours per day.Sitting: Occasional / Up to 4 hours per day.Walking: Occasional / Up to 3 hours per day.Repetitive Motion/Activity: Keyboard activity, telephone use, writing.Visual Acuity: Ability to view computer monitor and read newsprint.Travel: Requires up to 20% local travel.Environmental Exposure: Regular exposure to unpleasant or hazardous working conditions (noise, heat, dust, bodily fluids, etc.) more than 50% of work time.
