Qualifications

  • Typical requirement: High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
  • DSP-I/DSP-II certification required or obtained within 1 year.
  • CPR, CPI and First Aid certifications must be valid.
  • 1–2 years in licensed residential setting with medical fragility/behavior issues.
  • Ability to obtain criminal record/fingerprint clearance.

Responsibilities

  • Provide personal care (eating, hygiene, showering, bed prep).
  • Assist meals and dietary-compliant planning; may help with G-tube feeding.
  • Assist in administration and monitoring of medications.
  • Help with housekeeping and laundry for residents.
  • Facilitate daily living skills per IPP/ISP goals.
  • Provide ongoing engagement and active treatment.
  • Complete daily required reports and documentation.
  • Attend staff meetings and mandatory trainings.
  • May use company vehicle to transport residents to appointments.
  • Participate in recreational activities and other duties as assigned.

Starting Pay: $20 - $21/Hour

Overview of Position

Attends to the personal care of adults with developmental disabilities living in a licensed residential home. Assists and participates in the planning, coordination and delivery of daily living activities; including outings, to facilitate development of living skills for the residents and help them achieve a higher level of independence.

Essential Functions
  • Provides personal care for residents which may include assistance with eating, personal hygiene, showering, restroom assistance, and preparing for bedtime.
  • Assists and/or prepares meals incompliance with dietary restrictions; assists individuals to eat, including those who may require assistance with G-tube feeding.
  • Assists in the administration and monitoring of medications.
  • Assists in care and cleaning of residential home, which includes housekeeping, & laundering of residents’ clothing.
  • Conducts daily activities to assist in the development of the residents’ living skills, consistent with their Individual Program Plan (IPP) and Individual Support Plan (ISP) goals.
  • Provides continuous active treatment and engagement.
  • Completes all required reports and documentation on a daily basis.
  • Attends all necessary staff meetings and completes all required mandatory trainings.
  • May use company provided vehicle to transport individuals to health care appointments and other various locations.
  • Participates in recreational activities in a variety of settings.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
  • Typically requires High School Diploma, GED, or national equivalent.
  • DSP-I and DSP-II Certification required or must be attained within first year of hire or first year in position.
  • Must possess and maintain valid CPR, CPI and First Aid Certifications.
Experience
  • 1 to 2 years’ experience, or equivalent combination of training, education and experience to perform the job successfully.
  • 1-year minimum experience in a licensed residential setting working with medical fragile adults with developmental disabilities and/or behavioral issues.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Familiarity with charting, medication administration, and positive behavior support.
  • Working knowledge of behavioral issues, including aggressive, non-verbal and self-injury behaviors.
  • Working knowledge and understanding of Individual Program Plans and Individual Service Plans.
  • Working knowledge of Regional Center, Department of Developmental Services, Title 17 and 22.
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing; Ability to interpret and carry out written and/or oral instructions.
  • Able to work in indoor and outdoor settings, arrange and participate in outdoor activities with residents of the residential home.
  • Ability to consistently demonstrate good judgment and decision-making skills; Ability to exercise discretion and confidentiality pertaining to the work environment.
  • Ability to pass post-offer medical examination and test for tuberculosis.
  • Able to obtain and maintain a criminal record/fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice and Federal Bureau of Investigation per Easter Seals Southern California and/or program requirements.
  • If applicable, able to possess and maintain driving record in compliance with Transportation Safety Standards, and valid California driver’s license; maintain proper auto insurance and vehicle registration.

  • Occasional / 0-50 lbs.
  • Standing: Occasional / Up to 3 hours per day.
  • Sitting: Occasional / Up to 4 hours per day.
  • Walking: Occasional / Up to 3 hours per day.
  • Repetitive Motion/Activity: Keyboard activity, telephone use, writing.
  • Visual Acuity: Ability to view computer monitor and read newsprint.
Travel

Requires up to 20% local travel.

Environmental Exposure

Regular exposure to unpleasant or hazardous working conditions (noise, heat, dust, bodily fluids, etc.) more than 50% of work time.
