Description of Services

Guided by the “Your Metro, The Way Forward” Strategic Transformation Plan, WMATA is aligning its operations, technology, organizational structure, and capital investments to meet evolving customer needs, improve efficiency, and strengthen regional mobility. This transformation addresses changes in ridership patterns, growing customer expectations, new transportation competitors, and budget challenges intensified by the Covid‑19 pandemic. The initiative enhances cross‑department collaboration, modernizes processes, and supports long‑term sustainability and trusted service for the communities we serve.

Responsibilities

Maintains confidentiality of all files/records and information specific to employee applicants seen in the Medical Services Branch locations; prepares applicants and employees for medical test including but not limited to venipuncture collections, hearing and vision, pulmonary function test (spirometry), EKG’s, X‑ray and stress test; accurately and efficiently performs regulatory drug and alcohol testing procedures in accordance with DOT and WMATA regulations; performs procedures, which may include the following: checks all alcohol and drug testing equipment to ensure cleanliness and preparedness, and assures that all necessary supplies and forms are available; maintains a minimal Level D BAT (Breath Alcohol Testing) certification; ensures each examination room and collection area are properly stocked and cleaned prior to each procedure.

Required and Desired Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Applied Science Degree from a CAAHEP‑accredited college program; Associate’s Degree in Allied Health Sciences.
  • Three (3) years of experience in a hospital/medical setting is required, or an equivalent combination of post‑high‑school education in allied health science courses and a minimum of five (5) years of experience as a medical technician in a hospital setting is required. Certified status with a minimal Level D BAT (Breath Alcohol Testing) certification is also required.

Schedule and Overtime

Standard hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with a one‑hour unpaid lunch break. However, the COTR may request temporary services for periods in excess of a seven and one‑half (7.5) hour day or a thirty‑seven and one‑half hour (37.5) hour week. Temporary personnel working six (6) hours or more are required to take a one‑half hour unpaid lunch break. Overtime: hours worked in excess of forty (40) hours in one week are considered overtime and all overtime must be approved by the COTR in advance.

Clearance Level Required

Employment is contingent upon successfully completing any required background checks, in accordance with applicable law.
