Job summary

Visionary Communications, Inc. in Gillette, Wyoming, is seeking a Field Technician – Fiber Drops to join our wireless team as a full-time, hourly position.

The role involves installing underground and overhead cables, locating existing facilities, and following safety and code requirements. The successful candidate will lift up to 50 pounds, travel regionally up to 50% with per diem provided, and use a range of trenching and installation equipment.

Responsibilities

About this position

Field Technician – Fiber Drops

Visionary Broadband seeks a qualified individual to fill the role of Field Technician – Fiber Drops. This full-time, hourly position will join the wireless team at Visionary Broadband, a division of Visionary Communications, Inc., one of the top service providers in the region as summer help.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Safely and efficiently install underground cables in residential and commercial environments.


• Use best practices for installing underground wiring so as not to violate local building codes.


• Operate various trenching equipment such as a mini skid steer or walk beside trencher.


• Locate existing buried copper and fiber facilities and comply with 811 requirements (OneCall) before any digging projects, properly identifying other utility flags and safely working around other utilities.


• Load reel trailers with strand, fiber or cable as required.


• Bury cable and conduit systems, by operating blowing, plowing, digging, boring, and trenching equipment and pulling fiber and cable through conduit systems.


• Safely and efficiently install overhead cables in residential and commercial environments.


• Use best practices for installing underground wiring so as not to violate local codes and regulations or customer specs.


• Load reel trailers with strand, fiber or cable as required.


• Hang overhead cable or strand using various methods including but not limited to a ladder, bucket truck, or gaffs.


• Pull fiber and cable through conduit systems

Qualifications:

A qualified candidate must possess the following skills, or have equivalent experience and/or qualifications:

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.


• Good knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, as well as ability to quickly learn and work within proprietary computer applications.


• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with demonstrated problem solving abilities


• A valid driver's license and be insurable to drive a company vehicle is preferred.


• Flexibility to work outside of standard 8am-5pm hours and be willing to travel on a weekly basis.


• Must be willing to travel within the region 50% of the time (hotels and per diem paid for out of town travel).

Physical Requirements:

• Lift and carry up to and above 50 pounds.


• Utilize fine motor coordination, clear speech, and good visual acuity.


• Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity


• Continually required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl


• Exposure to moving mechanical parts


• Exposure to outside weather conditions


• Ability to safely load, secure, and haul a trailer for transporting materials and equipment.
