Job summary

Visionary Communications, Inc. is seeking an Outside Plant Underground Laborer to join our fiber construction team in Wyoming. This full-time, hourly role supports trenching, utility locate, and site prep, with travel across the region as needed.

Employee safety and adherence to standards are essential, working outdoors in varying conditions. Candidate will operate hand and power tools, handle materials, and coordinate with field crews under supervision of the Fiber Operations Manager.

Qualifications

• Experience with heavy machinery such as forklift, excavator, or hydro-vac.
• Valid driver’s license and CDL eligibility.
• Ability to drive with a trailer.
• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Detail oriented with safety focus.
• Ability to pass a drug test and background screen.
• Willingness to travel across a large service area.
• Able to lift/push/pull/carry up to 75 pounds.
• Ability to work in various weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Operate a variety of hand and power tools, prepare sites, dig trenches, and set supports.
• Dig trenches, backfill excavations, or compact earth per specs.
• Perform strenuous manual labor in road/highway environments to prepare sites.
• Locate underground utilities and identify hazards.
• Conduct traffic control around work zones.
• Perform material handling and storage tasks.
• Follow project plans laid out by Visionary Engineering and Construction Management.
• Perform underground work safely per state and company standards.
• Operate machinery as required.
• Maintain a safe working environment.

Outside Plant Underground Laborer Job Description

Salary Range: $23.00 To $27.00 Hourly

Job Overview:

Visionary seeks a qualified individual to fulfill the role of Outside Plant (OSP) Construction Laborer and work with Visionary’s underground fiber optic construction team.This full-time, hourly position will join the Fiber team at Visionary Broadband, a division of Visionary Communications, Inc., one of the top service providers in the region. The position can be based out of Gillette, Casper or Douglas Wyoming,with anticipated travel in the surrounding region. This position will report to the Fiber Operations Manager and will spend time also working with regional construction managers in Wyoming and Montana, and future territories as Visionary expands.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operate a variety of hand and power tools, clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the sides of excavations, erecting scaffolding, cleaning up rubble and debris, and removing waste material
• Dig trenches, backfill excavations, or compacting earth to grade specifications, using shovels and machinery
• Perform a variety of tasks involving strenuous manual labor in road/highway environments to prepare worksite for telecommunications cabling
• Locate underground utilities and eliminate potential hazards for cabling work to be completed
• Conduct traffic control near, in, or around work zones
• Perform material handling and storage tasks
• Follow project plans laid out by Visionary Engineering and Construction Management
• Accurately perform underground work in accordance with State, County, City, and Visionary standards.
• As the job requires, operate all requisite machinery safely to ensure the job is completed
• Maintain a safe working environment
• In partnership with Visionary’s fleet management team and supervisory staff, oversee vehicle and machine maintenance

Qualifications:

• Experience with any heavy machinery such as a forklift, excavator, hydro-vac, or similar a plus
• A valid driver’s license and eligibility to obtain a CDL as needed
• Ability to safely drive with a trailer
• Good communication skills, both verbal and written
• Detail oriented
• Ability to pass a drug test and background screen
• Flexibility to work outside of standard 8am-5pm hours and be willing to travel throughout a large service territory.
• Must be able to lift/push/pull/carry up to 75 pounds
• Must be able to work in various weather conditions (hot, cold, wet, dry, windy)
• Must be able to work in a loud, noise filled environment
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with demonstrated problem solving abilities

Physical Requirements:

90%+ / - of the time will be spent walking and standing in the field or utilizing construction machinery with various weather conditions.

Visual and audio acuity is essential to this position.
