Job summary

Visionary Broadband is hiring a Field Technician - Fiber Drops on a full-time, hourly basis to join our wireless team. The role involves installing underground and overhead fiber drops for residential and commercial settings, while adhering to safety standards and local codes.

Willingness to travel regionally and work outside standard hours is required. The position supports Visionary Communications, Inc., a regional provider.

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Strong analytical and problem solving abilities.
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn proprietary software.
• Valid driver's license and be insurable to drive a company vehicle.
• Flexibility to work outside standard 8am-5pm hours and travel regionally.
• Must be willing to travel within the region 50% of the time.

• Use best practices for installing underground wiring so as not to violate local building codes.
• Operate trenching equipment such as a mini skid steer or walk beside trencher.
• Locate existing buried copper and fiber facilities and comply with 811 requirements before digging projects.
• Load reel trailers with strand, fiber or cable as required.
• Bury cable and conduit systems using trenching equipment and pulling through conduit.
• Safely and efficiently install overhead cables in residential and commercial environments.
• Hang overhead cable or strand using ladders, bucket trucks, or other methods.
• Pull fiber and cable through conduit systems.

Job description

Visionary Broadband seeks a qualified individual to fill the role of Field Technician - Fiber Drops. This full-time, hourly position will join the wireless team at Visionary Broadband, a division of Visionary Communications, Inc., one of the top service providers in the region.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Safely and efficiently install underground cables in residential and commercial environments.
• Use best practices for installing underground wiring so as not to violate local building codes.
• Operate various trenching equipment such as a mini skid steer or walk beside trencher.
• Locate existing buried copper and fiber facilities and comply with 811 requirements (OneCall) before any digging projects, properly identifying other utility flags and safely working around other utilities.
• Load reel trailers with strand, fiber or cable as required.
• Bury cable and conduit systems, by operating blowing, plowing, digging, boring, and trenching equipment and pulling fiber and cable through conduit systems.
• Safely and efficiently install overhead cables in residential and commercial environments.
• Use best practices for installing underground wiring so as not to violate local codes and regulations or customer specs.
• Load reel trailers with strand, fiber or cable as required.
• Hang overhead cable or strand using various methods including but not limited to a ladder, bucket truck, or gaffs.
• Pull fiber and cable through conduit systems

Qualifications

A qualified candidate must possess the following skills, or have equivalent experience and/or qualifications:

• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Good knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, as well as ability to quickly learn and work within proprietary computer applications.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with demonstrated problem solving abilities
• A valid driver's license and be insurable to drive a company vehicle is preferred.
• Flexibility to work outside of standard 8am-5pm hours and be willing to travel on a weekly basis.
• Must be willing to travel within the region 50% of the time (hotels and per diem paid for out of town travel).

Physical Requirements

• Lift and carry up to and above 50 pounds.
• Utilize fine motor coordination, clear speech, and good visual acuity.
• Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
• Continually required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl
• Exposure to moving mechanical parts
• Exposure to outside weather conditions
• Ability to safely load, secure, and haul a trailer for transporting materials and equipment.
