Job summary

Visionary Broadband seeks a qualified Combination Technician to join the Installation, Tower, and Fiber Drop crew. This full-time, hourly role involves safely installing underground cables, wiring, and fiber systems across residential and commercial sites, with travel across Montana, Wyoming, and Colorado.

Duties include on-call support and learning wireless/fiber installation and testing. Ideal candidates have strong communication, problem-solving skills, and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Good knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, as well as ability to quickly learn and work within proprietary computer applications.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with demonstrated problem solving abilities
  • A valid driver's license and be insurable to drive a company vehicle is preferred.
  • Flexibility to work outside of standard 8am-5pm hours and be willing to travel on a weekly basis.
  • Must be willing to travel within the region (Montana, Wyoming and Colorado) 70% of the time (hotels and per diem paid for out of town travel). Generally you will be home most weekends.

Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently install underground cables in residential and commercial environments.
  • Use best practices for installing underground wiring so as not to violate local building codes.
  • Operate various trenching equipment such as a mini skid steer or walk beside trencher.
  • Locate existing buried copper and fiber facilities and comply with 811 requirements (OneCall) before any digging projects, properly identifying other utility flags and safely working around other utilities.
  • Load reel trailers with strand, fiber or cable as required.
  • Bury cable and conduit systems, by operating blowing, plowing, digging, boring, and trenching equipment and pulling fiber and cable through conduit systems.
  • Represent Visionary Broadband in a professional manner while learning to perform wireless and fiber internet installations, repairs, removals, service calls, and related field work.
  • Participate in hands‑on training with experienced team members to build skills in wireless and fiber internet, VoIP, cabling, equipment installation, testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Develop foundational telecommunications knowledge, including how customer connections are installed, documented, tested, and maintained.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, is necessary
  • Maintain professional behavior and proper communication with internal and external contacts, including co‑workers, managers, and outside contractors/vendors.
  • Interact with customers over the phone and in person
  • Use company tools, mobile applications, and work order systems to document completed work; training will be provided
  • Install equipment on Tower
  • Assembling electronic equipment in racks/cabinets, plumbing all RF, wiring
  • Telecom Installation of RF/ground/power/telecommunications cabling.
  • Completion of client and company checklists, photos, and test results typically communicated to management (emails, uploads to FTP, Web Interface, etc.)
  • Maintain network documentation with a very high level of accuracy
  • Completing work that is assigned while on 24-hour “on call” duty to resolve any tower‑related or customer issues

About this position

Visionary Broadband seeks a qualified individual to fill the role of Combination Technician. This full-time, hourly position will join the Installation, Tower, and Fiber Drop crew(s) at Visionary Broadband, a division of Visionary Communications, Inc., one of the top service providers in the region.

Qualifications:

A qualified candidate must possess the following skills, or have equivalent experience and/or qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Good knowledge of all Microsoft Office applications, as well as ability to quickly learn and work within proprietary computer applications.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills with demonstrated problem solving abilities
  • A valid driver's license and be insurable to drive a company vehicle is preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift and carry up to and above 50 pounds.
  • Work at Tower heights for the duration of a day.
  • Utilize fine motor coordination, clear speech, and good visual acuity.
  • Continually required to utilize hand and finger dexterity
  • Continually required to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel or crawl
  • Exposure to moving mechanical parts
  • Exposure to outside weather conditions
