Job description

Powerus is an American defense technology company focused on developing, manufacturing, and scaling advanced autonomous systems for defense, national security, and commercial applications. We operate at the intersection of cutting-edge technology, advanced manufacturing, and real-world operational capability.

We are building a team of exceptional people who move quickly, take ownership, and thrive in an environment where execution matters more than process.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a genuine drone enthusiast with strong technical instincts and a commercial mindset to join our growing sales and demonstrations team.

This is a hands-on, customer-facing role combining drone technology, technical support, flight operations, product demonstrations, and sales enablement.

You will become an expert in our drone platforms, understanding how they work, how to configure, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair them, and most importantly, how to communicate their capabilities and value to customers.

We want someone who genuinely loves drones. Someone who builds them, flies them, modifies them, follows the technology, and enjoys understanding how things work. You may already have professional experience, or you may have developed exceptional technical knowledge through years of personal interest and hands-on experimentation.

Technical ability is essential, but so is commercial awareness. You must be able to translate complex engineering capabilities into clear, compelling customer benefits, working closely with our sales, business development, and demonstration teams to help win business.

Key Responsibilities
Drone Operations & Technical Expertise
  • Develop comprehensive technical and operational knowledge of Powerus drone platforms, payloads, components, and supporting systems.
  • Assemble, configure, calibrate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair drones across multiple platforms.
  • Diagnose technical issues involving flight controllers, propulsion systems, batteries, communications, sensors, and associated hardware.
  • Understand flight control software, ground control stations, firmware, telemetry, and mission planning systems.
  • Prepare, configure, test, and validate aircraft before customer demonstrations and operational deployments.
  • Conduct flight operations, functional testing, and technical evaluations in accordance with applicable regulations and company procedures.
  • Maintain aircraft readiness, equipment inventories, technical documentation, and maintenance records.
  • Develop the ability to advise customers on platform configuration, operational requirements, payload integration, and technical suitability.
  • Work directly with sales and business development teams to understand customer requirements and identify appropriate technical solutions.
  • Translate technical specifications and product capabilities into practical operational and commercial advantages.
  • Participate in customer meetings, technical discussions, product presentations, and sales demonstrations.
  • Explain complex drone technology clearly and confidently to both technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Support the development of technical proposals, product comparisons, capability presentations, and customer-facing materials.
  • Help identify opportunities to improve product positioning based on customer feedback, competitor capabilities, and emerging market requirements.
  • Build strong relationships with customers by providing credible, practical, and technically accurate advice.
  • Act as the technical bridge between customers, sales teams, engineering, and product development.
Demonstrations & Customer Experience
  • Take ownership of the technical preparation and readiness of drones used for customer demonstrations, exhibitions, and field events.
  • Set up, operate, and break down demonstration equipment, aircraft, ground control stations, and supporting technology.
  • Conduct or support live flight demonstrations, explaining aircraft capabilities, performance characteristics, and operational applications.
  • Anticipate technical challenges and resolve issues quickly, often under significant time pressure.
  • Ensure demonstration equipment is maintained to a high standard and ready for deployment at short notice.
  • Travel to customer sites, industry events, military installations, and demonstration locations as required.
  • Deliver a professional, technically credible customer experience that strengthens confidence in Powerus products.
Required Qualifications & Experience
  • Genuine, demonstrable enthusiasm for drones, UAV technology, and autonomous systems.
  • Strong practical understanding of drone components, flight systems, electronics, and aircraft operation.
  • Hands‑on experience building, flying, maintaining, modifying, or repairing drones, whether professionally or personally.
  • Familiarity with multirotor platforms, flight controllers, propulsion systems, batteries, radio systems, and ground control software.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and practical troubleshooting skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and the confidence to engage directly with customers.
  • Commercial awareness and an ability to understand how technical capabilities solve real customer problems.
  • Comfortable working independently, taking ownership, and making decisions quickly.
  • Willingness to travel and support demonstrations outside normal working hours when required.
  • Ability to learn new platforms, technologies, and operational procedures rapidly.
Preferred Qualifications
  • FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, or willingness and ability to obtain certification promptly.
  • Experience with PX4, ArduPilot, Mission Planner, QGroundControl, or similar flight control systems.
  • Experience with FPV drones, heavy‑lift multirotors, fixed‑wing UAVs, or autonomous platforms.
  • Familiarity with MAVLink, telemetry systems, radio communications, and payload integration.
  • Experience soldering, wiring, assembling, and repairing electronic or electromechanical systems.
  • Previous experience supporting technical sales, product demonstrations, field engineering, or customer‑facing technical operations.
  • Familiarity with defense, public safety, industrial, or commercial drone applications.
  • Experience working in a startup, high‑growth technology company, or similarly demanding operational environment.
What We're Looking For

We care as much about attitude, curiosity, and practical ability as we do about formal qualifications.

The ideal candidate is someone who spends their own time learning about drones, understands the technology beyond a product brochure, and can confidently discuss why one platform or configuration is better suited to a particular mission than another.

You should enjoy fixing problems, experimenting with technology, flying aircraft, and engaging with customers. You must be equally comfortable working at a bench with tools in your hands, preparing an aircraft for flight, or standing in front of a prospective customer explaining its capabilities.

We move at exceptional speed. Priorities change, demonstrations arise at short notice, and customers expect answers quickly. We work in hours and days, not quarters and years.

We need people who anticipate requirements, act without being chased, and take personal responsibility for delivering results.

Above all, we want someone who is passionate about drones, technically credible, commercially aware, and excited to help build a major American autonomous systems company.

Why Join Powerus?
  • Work directly with advanced drone and autonomous systems technology.
  • Gain hands‑on exposure to multiple aircraft platforms and real‑world applications.
  • Play a meaningful role in customer demonstrations, technical engagement, and commercial growth.
  • Work closely with engineering, sales, and senior leadership in a rapidly scaling business.
  • Join an ambitious team where initiative, technical expertise, and execution are recognized and rewarded.

Powerus is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We consider qualified applicants without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, veteran status, or any other status protected by applicable law.
