Job description

About the Mission

DEFENDEYE is building the future of autonomous Search & Rescue. Our AI-powered drones are designed to launch instantly to locate missing persons and support emergency responders. We are opening a new manufacturing facility in Hallandale Beach, and we need a hands-on builder who can take our drones from a pile of parts to a flight-ready aircraft—and then test them in the sky.

The Role

We are looking for a versatile Drone Assembly Technician who wears two hats: Builder and Pilot. You will spend your days 3D printing custom parts, micro-soldering flight controllers, assembling airframes, and then heading out to field-test the very units you built. You are the final quality check before our technology saves a life.

Key Responsibilities
  • Precision Assembly: Assemble complex drone airframes, integrating motors, ESCs, flight controllers, and sensors.
  • Micro-Soldering: Perform high-precision soldering on small wires, connectors, and PCBs (micro-soldering under a microscope may be required).
  • 3D Printing Operations: Operate and maintain our fleet of 3D printers (FDM/SLA). You will slice files, print parts, remove supports, and finish prototypes.
  • Flight Testing (Part 107): Conduct test flights for R&D and quality assurance. You will verify flight stability, test autonomous features, and troubleshoot issues in the field.
  • Rework & Repair: Diagnose crashed or malfunctioning units, replace components, and document failures for the engineering team.
  • Feedback Loop: Work directly with engineers to improve design ease-of-assembly and flight performance.
What We Need (Requirements)

FAA Part 107 Certified: You must hold a current Remote Pilot Certificate.

  • Soldering Wizardry: Proven experience soldering very small electronics (0402 components, fine-pitch wires). You have steady hands and good eyes.
  • 3D Printing Pro: Experience with slicing software (Cura, PrusaSlicer, etc.) and maintaining printers (leveling beds, unclogging nozzles, filament management).
  • Drone Hardware Knowledge: You know the difference between a UART and I2C port. You understand Betaflight, PX4, or Ardupilot configuration.
  • Manual Dexterity: Comfortable using tweezers, heat guns, and precision screwdrivers for hours at a time.
Location

Ability to commute to Hallandale Beach, FL.

Nice to Have
  • Experience building FPV racing drones (this is usually a great sign of the skills we need!).
  • Basic wiring harness fabrication (crimping, heat shrinking).
  • CAD experience (Fusion 360, SolidWorks) for making quick adjustments to 3D print files.
Why Join Us?
  • Fly What You Build: Few jobs let you solder a circuit board in the morning and fly it in the afternoon.
  • Save Lives: Your work directly impacts our ability to rescue people in danger.
  • Ground Floor: Be one of the first employees in our new US facility.
