Job summary

Garelick Farms, Dairy Farmers of America, is hiring a 2nd Shift Driver-Yard/Plant Non-CDL to move trailers and support shuttle operations. This shift runs 2:00 PM to 11:00 PM, Sunday through Saturday with every other weekend off, and offers $24.25/hour base pay plus a $1.50/hour shift differential.

A $1,500 sign-on bonus for external candidates is available. You will follow DOT rules, maintain equipment, and complete daily paperwork while working collaboratively with staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Experience driving or shuttling tractor trailers preferred
• Must meet minimum age requirements
• Must meet DFA/MVR and DOT requirements
• Driver’s license or operator’s permit for at least three years

Responsibilities

• Operate a commercial motor vehicle in compliance with DOT and DFA rules
• Receive instructions via radio and shuttle trailers as needed
• Perform daily maintenance checks on shuttle truck
• Document trailer moves in the system or move sheet
• Fuel the yard truck as needed
• Couple and uncouple tractor trailer units
• Connect and disconnect brake lines as needed
• Complete safety inspections per DOT regulations
• Secure all equipment and complete paperwork at shift end
• Communicate effectively with staff and supervisor
• Attend driver workshops and training sessions

GENERAL PURPOSE

Operate shuttles to move trailers from building to building, staging area, and from various loading dock doors. Apply knowledge of commercial driving regulations.

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Operate a commercial motor vehicle in compliance with Department of Transportation (DOT) and DFA rules, regulations, and policies adhering to all safety practices
• Receive instructions via radio and perform trailer shuttling to accommodate logistical needs
• Perform daily maintenance checks of shuttle truck and report any malfunctions to the appropriate person
• Document all trailer moves into the appropriate system or daily move sheet; submit sheet to appropriate person upon the completion of the shift
• Fuel the yard truck as needed
• Couple and uncouple tractor trailer units
• Connect and disconnect brake lines as needed
• Perform safety check inspection of the trailer according to DOT regulations
• Secure all equipment and complete all necessary paperwork at the end of the shift
• Communicate effectively and maintain good relations with local staff; report any problems to the supervisor
• Attend all driver workshops and training sessions
• Represent DFA positively and professionally at all times during interactions with customers or other individuals

Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or equivalent preferred

Experience driving or shuttling tractor trailers preferred

Must meet minimum age requirements

Must meet DFA requirements for Motor Vehicle Records

Must meet all DOT requirements

Certification and/or License – driver’s license or operator’s permit for at least the three years immediately prior to application
