Summary: The Driver / Warehouse Associate is responsible for the delivery of merchandise to and from customers, vendors, and other O’Connor branches or locations, as directed, with the use of a company vehicle. This role processes, handles, ships, receives, transfers, stocks, picks, and pulls products for customers and vendors for all incoming or outgoing merchandise and freight. This role works in all departments within the warehouse related to product incoming and outgoing tasks. Additionally, this role is responsible for excellence in customer service, the proper use of company tools, vehicles, and equipment, as well as adhering to all safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.

The Responsibilities

Customer Interaction

  • Provides excellent customer service through timely customer interaction, problem resolution or escalation with effective and efficient follow-up.
  • Addresses customers politely and professionally in a courteous manner, even in situations that may become difficult or tense
  • Promptly responds to customer inquiries via phone, email, or fax with courtesy in a professional demeanor
  • Establishes and maintains professional business dealings with customers and vendors at all times
  • Conducts personal interactions with customers representative of a company with strong, ethical standards
  • Supports valued business relationships in all dealings with related departments aiming to resolve customer and other issues in a timely manner. Approaches peers and customers with a spirit of positive problem resolution
  • Supports the Customer Value Proposition of 1-hour Will Calls


Driving

  • Responsible for safe, timely, accurate, and efficient product deliveries.
  • Delivers and transfers merchandise to and from customers, vendors, branch locations, or other locations as directed by their supervisor.
  • Responsible for accurately checking all products as loaded and/or unloaded by the driver against the paperwork associated with the delivery.
  • Report any delays to the supervisor through the course of the day.
  • Responsible for checking in periodically with the supervisor while on the road.
  • Responsible for following all procedures associated with deliveries, including but not limited to driver logs, gas receipts, invoicing, collection of funds, accident/incident/injury reporting, returns and return forms, etc.
  • Confers with supervisor before departure on the proper form of payment for any COD order.
  • Responsible for securing all products in the vehicle properly to prevent shifting or damage to the product prior to departure and throughout deliveries as needed.
  • Carries the DOT Medical Certification card and a valid Driver’s License on their person at all times.
  • Ensures DOT Medical Certification and Driver’s License validity, and ensures notification to the manager of any expirations or relinquishments of each. Ensures timely re-validation of both certification and license. Understands that failure to maintain valid certification and licensing jeopardizes work continuance.
  • Maintains the vehicle's good condition, performs regular maintenance, ensures cleanliness, and reports any issues to their supervisor.
  • Performs a daily vehicle inspection before departure to ensure vehicle safety, legal, and operational standards.
  • Performs proficient use of electronic devices, including mobile phones and GPS.


Warehouse

  • Responsible for general warehouse work as directed, including working in any and all departments within the warehouse relating to incoming or outgoing product.
  • Assists shipping, receiving, transfers, unloading trucks, checking in merchandise, and matching purchase orders to packing slips.
  • Moves materials and items from receiving or transfer areas to shipping areas or stock locations as designated.
  • Sorts and places products on racks, shelves, or in bins according to a predetermined sequence, such as size, type, style, color, or product code.
  • Fills sales orders or transfers for product and distributes items to shipping or Will Call in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Organizes warehouse and work areas to maintain order at all times.
  • Responsible for the cleanliness of their work area.
  • Ensures warehouse is accessible and safe for employees and customer traffic
  • Performs aisle responsibilities as assigned
  • Understands and handles bills of lading and ensures proper procedure for notation of exceptions
  • Adequately and safely operates warehouse equipment, including Big Joe, 2-wheel and 4-wheel carts, pallet jacks, and other carts, while wearing required safety gear.


Inventory Control

  • Mark the products or orders with identifying information using the appropriate method
  • Assists in counting of physical inventory and daily cycle counts as needed.
  • Responsible for accuracy in the handling of merchandise.
  • Responsible for following procedures relating to checking and double-checking merchandise and proper error reporting.
  • Responsible for inspecting all products handled for damage and properly notifying a supervisor in the event a damaged product is found.
  • Responsible for inspecting all incoming product for damage and for accuracy in quantities compared to the bill of lading and packing slips when required.
  • Responsible for reporting inventory discrepancies.
  • Responsible for reporting location discrepancies.


Safety

  • Adheres to all safety policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Acts upon unsafe conditions quickly as needed.
  • Adequately wears all proper safety equipment and gear.
  • Responsible for following all safety requirements on construction job sites or when working around cranes, including wearing a hard hat or other safety gear when required.
  • Ensures proper operation and safety inspections on material handling equipment.
  • When loading vehicles, secures all products in the vehicle properly to prevent shifting or damage to product.
  • Utilizes safe work processes and compliance to company safety procedures including compressed gas tank handling.


General

  • Responsible for performing in accordance with all training, materials handling, operations manuals, and posted signage in the facility.
  • Performs facilities or vehicle maintenance duties as needed.
  • Checks in with supervisor on arrival and prior to departure each day as well as before and after breaks and lunch each day.


Other

  • Safety Sensitive Position: the ability to perform job functions in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner.
  • Maintains proficiency with company computer systems in aspects related to job, such as data entry, messaging, call logs, data notations, queue updates, batching, or other job & office functions and requirements

Job Requirements

  • High School diploma or its GED equivalent.
  • 1 or more years’ experience with driving, warehousing, and related functions.
  • Satisfactory DMV report plus driver insurability.
  • Valid minimum 1-year DOT certification and state driver’s license.
  • Demonstrates ability and willingness to safely operate warehouse equipment such as Big Joe, 2 wheel and 4-wheel carts, pallet jacks, other carts using required safety gear
  • Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office suite applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Aptitude for mathematical operations and numerical analysis.
  • Use computers, photocopiers, scanners, phone systems and meeting and virtual platform sharing relative to the needs of the job.
