Job description

The schedule for this part-time driving position will be Monday-Friday 6:30am-11:30am


Starting Salary is $11-$13 per hour, depending on experience.

Summary/Primary Purpose: To drive truck/van for collection of donations and food orders for Pantry or other Corps programs. Maintain safe and high standards of warehouse operations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Make routine contacts for purpose of scheduling/organizing daily pick- ups of food and other donations.

  • Drive truck/van to pick up donations as scheduled in cooperation with Operations Manager and Social Services Coordinator

  • Safely operate a pallet jack

  • Distribute donations to proper departments as assigned

  • Oversee and help with loading/unloading of truck ensuring the safety of personnel and volunteers

  • Interact with donors in a positive and friendly manner

  • Responsible for truck/van maintenance and safety

  • Pick up casseroles from area churches/businesses as needed

  • Pick up food from Food Bank/DMARC and other organizations as assigned

  • Record daily donations in spreadsheet for statistical reporting

  • Complete statistical reports for TSA, Food Bank and other agencies as assigned

  • Responsible for warehouse upkeep, organization, and keeping it in presentable condition

  • Set up and help at events as scheduled

  • Driving is an essential function of the position.

  • All other duties as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages Assigned Volunteers


Education and/or Experience: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and related experience in driving 14-foot box truck, including truck into close spaces, such as docks and alleys.


Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal knowledge, skill, and/or ability required for this position.



  • Ability to be flexible and able to work on multiple projects or tasks simultaneously

  • Basic computer skills with ability to access payroll, timekeeping and personal data via a web-based system.

  • Attention to detail and creative problem-solving skills.

  • Strong independent judgement.


Other Qualifications: Must pass all applicable background checks. Must possess a valid driver's license from the state in which you reside. Must be approved through The Salvation Army Fleet Safety Program to drive either a Salvation Army or personal vehicle on Salvation Army business.


Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must successfully complete Safe from Harm training within 90 days of hire, as established by The Salvation Army. Driver's License required. Must be able to pass DOT certification if requested. Must complete and pass all OSHA centered Salvation Army training of warehouse equipment.


Physical Requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical requirements include: good speaking, hearing and vision ability and excellent manual dexterity. Ability to stand, bend and reach for extended periods of time, dexterity of hands and fingers to operate vehicles and forklift, and other storage movement equipment. This position will be required the ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds routinely.


Working Conditions: The work environment is in vehicles and areas with near moving mechanical parts and loud noise. The environmental conditions include exposure to fumes or airborne particles, outdoor weather conditions, risk of electrical shock and vibration.
