Homes for the Homeless, Inc. (HFH) is seeking a full-time Driver for our Soundview Bronx shelter to support daily transportation of staff and clients, deliver supplies, and help with program activities across NYC and upstate New York.

The role requires a high school diploma, two years of driving experience, a valid New York State driver’s license with a clean record, and the ability to lift 50 pounds and work flexible hours. Maintains logs, inspects vehicles, and ensures safe, reliable operation.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years driving experience.
• Valid state driver’s license with a safe driving record.
• Complete driving abstract from DMV before hire and regularly.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds or more while loading, unloading, and transporting materials.
• Ability to drive throughout the five boroughs and surrounding areas.
• Ability to work flexible hours.

Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate vehicle mileage logs, inspection reports, and transportation records.
• Perform comprehensive before- and after-shift vehicle inspections by checking fuel and oil levels, tires, lights, brakes, and other critical fluids.
• Ensure agency vehicles are clean, fueled, and maintained in safe condition.
• Pick up and deliver food orders, supplies, furniture, and other agency materials.
• Safely transport clients and staff to appointments, housing viewings, program activities, and other approved destinations.
• Promptly report accidents, traffic violations, vehicle damage, mechanical issues, and maintenance concerns.

Homes for the Homeless, Inc. (HFH) is seeking an experienced full-time Driver for our family shelter in Soundview Bronx to help with daily delivery and transporting staff and clients as needed throughout all five NYC boroughs and upstate New York.

ABOUT HOMES FOR THE HOMELESS, INC.

Homes for the Homeless, Inc. (HFH) is a non-profit social services organization operating family shelters throughout NYC that serve as a hub of opportunity for families residing in the shelter and those in the neighboring community. On-site programs range from childcare, early childhood education centers, after-school clubs and programs, and youth recreation activities, such as sports teams, to housing assistance, case management, parenting workshops, career and job vocational training, support groups and substance abuse assistance, and family engagement and recreation events for the whole family.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Maintain accurate vehicle mileage logs, inspection reports, and transportation records.
• Perform comprehensive before- and after-shift vehicle inspections by checking fuel and oil levels, tires, lights, brakes, and other critical fluid levels to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant vehicle operation.
• Ensure agency vehicles are clean, fueled, and always maintained in safe operating condition.
• Pick up and deliver food orders, supplies, furniture, and other agency materials.
• Safely transport clients and staff to scheduled appointments, housing viewings, program activities, and other approved destinations, while performing additional transportation-related duties as assigned.
• Promptly report all accidents, traffic violations, vehicle damage, mechanical issues, and maintenance concerns to the appropriate supervisor in accordance with organizational policies and safety procedures.

QUALIFICATIONS

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years’ driving experience.
• Must possess a valid state driver’s license with a safe driving record that meets agency standards.
• Must provide a complete driving abstract from the Department of Motor Vehicles before hire and regularly once hired.
• Ability to safely operate a passenger vehicle for extended periods.
• Ability to safely lift, carry, push, and pull 50 pounds or more while loading, unloading, and transporting materials and equipment.
• Ability to drive throughout the five boroughs and surrounding areas.
• Ability to work flexible hours.
