Job Description and Duties

Position is Headquartered in Sacramento Driver Safety Office (DSO) and based out of Resident Hearing Office (RHO) in Mountain View. The hired position will complete training at the San Jose DSO, then assume full responsibilities at the RHO Mountain View location. Under the direction of a Driver Safety Manager I, the Driver Safety Hearing Officer will conduct investigations, reexaminations, administrative hearings, and interviews. This position involves analyzing, and evaluating cases related to medical requirements for commercial drivers, financial responsibility, fraud negligent operator actions, Administrative Per Se, and Special Certificates. The Driver Hearing Officer writes legal reports detailing case issues, findings, and decisions; verifies evidence to make and submit findings of fact and conclusions to respondents, their representatives, and the records according to statute, case law, and DMV policies and procedures regarding driving privileges; renders immediate decisions based upon hearing proceedings; issues appropriate written orders and notices of decision to customers; analyzes and verifies accuracy of administrative, medical, and legal documents; provides information at Driver Safety functions and maintains communication with law enforcement, medical professional, courts, attorneys and others.

The Salary Range shown is the minimum and maximum for a full-time appointment. Moving and relocation expenses will not be reimbursed for this position.

Working Conditions

Part-time telework available. Telework requires California residency. This position offers hybrid telework opportunities; however, telework arrangements are subject to change at any time based on State & departmental operational needs. Employees may be required to report to the office as necessary.

Office is located in Mountain View. Works in an office setting under artificial light. Will operate basic equipment such as computer, printers, copiers, fax machines, telephone, and recording devices. May be required to infrequently travel for offsite training, conferences and meetings that may involve overnight stay.
