Job summary

City of Conroe seeks a Driver/Press Operator to run a belt filter press and/or centrifuge at the wastewater treatment plant. You will haul processed sludge to a repurposing facility and grit and rags to the landfill using a roll-off truck.

You will also perform preventive maintenance on equipment. Must have a high school diploma, experience with municipal wastewater plant operations, and the ability to obtain Texas wastewater certification and a Class B CDL.

Qualifications

• High school diploma required; at least one year in municipal wastewater plant operations.
• Experience operating belt press and/or centrifuge.
• Texas Class C wastewater certification and Class B CDL required.
• Ability to lift up to 50–100 pounds and work on call.

Responsibilities

ASSIGNED TO THE CONROE CENTRAL WASTEWATER TREATMENT PLANT

JOB SUMMARY

The Driver/Press Operator performs duties in the operation of a belt filter press and or centrifuge at the wastewater treatment plant. The position is also responsible for hauling processed wastewater sludge to a repurposing facility and hauling wastewater grit and rags to the landfill in a roll-off truck. Other duties include preventative maintenance of the belt press and other wastewater treatment processes.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

High school diploma required. Minimum one year of experience in operations of Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants and operations of a belt filter press and or centrifuge.

Special Requirements:

Must possess Class "C" wastewater certification issued by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality. Must possess a valid Texas Class "B" Commercial Driver's License.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Two years' experience in operation of vehicles and light equipment.
• Ability to understand and abide by City of Conroe and Departmental policies and procedures.
• Must be able to work on call duty and respond at any hour during an emergency when requested.
• Must be able to attend after hours classes to renew or obtain required certifications/licenses when necessary.
• Ability to work as many hours needed to get the work assigned completed.
• Must be able to lift weights of 50 pounds and 100 pounds with assistance.
• Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
• Must be capable of conducting routine maintenance to vehicles and equipment.
• Ability to use all tools to accomplish the job in an efficient manner.
• Ability to adapt to new technology, new methods and changing conditions.
• Must be capable of reading, writing and speaking in English
• Must be able to communicate using a two-way radio.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The work is heavy to medium and requires the ability to exert up to 70 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required: climbing, crawling, crouching, feeling, fingering, grasping, handling, hearing, kneeling, lifting, mental acuity, pulling, pushing, reaching, repetitive motions, speaking, standing, stooping, talking, visual acuity and talking.

Starting salary for this position is $20.17 hourly.
