Job summary

zTrip NE is seeking an experienced Driver Operations Manager to lead a team of professional drivers, drive safety, performance, and service excellence. You will shape daily operations, coach drivers, monitor performance, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize routes and reliability.

Ideal candidates will have strong leadership, knowledge of DOT regulations, and a proven track record in transportation operations, driver engagement, and continuous improvement.

What You'll Do as a Driver Operations Manager:
Driver Leadership & Team Management
  • Lead, coach, mentor, and support a team of professional drivers.
  • Build strong relationships through consistent communication, engagement, and support.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for driver questions, concerns, and performance discussions.
  • Foster a culture of professionalism, accountability, safety, and exceptional customer service.
  • Conduct regular driver meetings, coaching sessions, and performance evaluations.
  • Recognize and celebrate driver achievements, milestones, and outstanding performance.
  • Provide guidance and support to help drivers achieve individual and team goals.
Driver Retention & Employee Engagement
  • Develop and implement strategies that improve driver satisfaction, retention, and employee morale.
  • Maintain regular communication with drivers to identify concerns, address challenges, and improve the overall driver experience.
  • Partner with recruiting and training teams to ensure successful onboarding and long-term employee success.
  • Address employee relations matters professionally, fairly, and effectively.
  • Support programs focused on driver recognition, engagement, and career development.
  • Help create a positive and inclusive work environment that encourages long-term commitment and success.
Operations & Performance Management
  • Monitor driver productivity, attendance, service quality, and operational performance.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, operational procedures, and service standards.
  • Collaborate with dispatch, maintenance, safety, and operations teams to maximize performance and efficiency.
  • Assist with scheduling challenges, route optimization, and service recovery efforts.
  • Analyze operational performance metrics and implement corrective actions when needed.
  • Manage day-to-day operational issues while balancing business objectives and employee needs.
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, productivity, customer satisfaction, and service delivery.
Safety & Compliance
  • Promote and reinforce a strong culture of safety throughout the operation.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, DOT regulations, and applicable industry standards.
  • Investigate incidents, accidents, customer complaints, and safety concerns, implementing corrective actions when appropriate.
  • Support new driver training and ongoing safety education programs.
  • Maintain accurate records related to driver qualifications, safety performance, and compliance requirements.
  • Work closely with safety teams to reduce risk and improve overall fleet safety performance.
Reporting & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Maintain accurate driver, operational, and performance records.
  • Track key performance indicators, retention trends, service levels, attendance, and safety metrics.
  • Prepare reports and provide updates to leadership teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional departments to support operational goals and workforce planning.
  • Recommend process improvements that enhance driver performance, employee engagement, and service quality.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that support organizational success.
Qualifications for a Driver Operations Manager:
  • Experience in transportation, driver management, fleet operations, logistics, dispatch, operations, or a related field preferred.
  • Previous leadership, supervisory, or people-management experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of transportation operations, DOT regulations, and driver compliance requirements preferred.
  • Strong communication, coaching, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to analyze operational data and make informed business decisions.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency with transportation management systems, dispatch software, and Microsoft Office preferred.
