Job summary

Estuary Transit District, operating as River Valley Transit, seeks full-time Bus Operators to provide safe, reliable transportation for Middlesex County residents. Responsibilities include daily vehicle inspections, fueling, passenger assistance, and fare handling.

Applicants must hold a Connecticut driver's license with endorsements, have at least five years of driving experience, and be able to lift 60 lbs. A DOT physical and drug/alcohol screening are required.

Qualifications

• Must possess a valid Connecticut Driver’s License with required endorsements including an F endorsement.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five (5) years driving experience with a good driving record.
• Ability to lift up to 60 lbs.
• Ability to work independently and follow District policies.
• Ability to pass a DOT physical and drug/alcohol screening.

Responsibilities

• Operate Estuary Transit District (ETD) vehicles and transport passengers safely.
• Complete daily vehicle inspections and fueling.
• Maintain trip records, assist passengers, and handle fares.
• Communicate via radio and adhere to policies set by the Operations Manager.

Position Overview

Full-time Bus Operators are responsible for the operation of Estuary Transit District (ETD)’s various vehicles and for the safe and orderly transportation of passengers to and from their destinations. Work includes completion of daily inspection of vehicle, fueling, interior and exterior cleaning of vehicle, maintaining accurate trip records, assisting passengers as required, receiving and accounting for fares, radio communications, and any other related duties as assigned by the Operations Manager.

Qualifications and Skills

Requirements

• Must posses a valid Connecticut Driver’s License with all required endorsements including anFendorsement
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Five (5) years driving experience, with a good driving record for the preceding two (2) years.
• Must be able to perform all duties associated with operating a vehicle and be physically able to lift 60 lbs.
• Ability to learn, to interpret, and to apply District’s policies and work independently without immediate and constant supervision.
• Ability to maintain a good working relationship with all coworkers and the general public and to use good judgment in recognizing scope of authority.
• Ability to pass a DOT physical performed by ETD’s physician.
• Subject to drug and alcohol screening.
