Job summary

The Maryland Food Bank in Baltimore is seeking a Mobile Market Driver to safely transport and distribute food through MFB’s Mobile Market Program, while supporting event setup and vehicle operations.

This customer-facing role serves as an ambassador for MFB, delivering professional, respectful service to community partners and neighbors. A valid driver’s license with a clean Motor Vehicle Record is required; pay is $22 per hour.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent or education plus relevant experience.
  • Proven customer service experience and ability to communicate clearly.

Responsibilities

  • Safely operate MFB vehicles and transport food to sites at scheduled delivery times.
  • Ensure vehicles loaded properly before departure and maintain daily inspection logs.
  • Follow all food safety, occupational safety, and transportation requirements.
  • Load and offload food products and assist neighbors with shopping during distributions.
  • Provide welcoming, respectful customer service to neighbors, partners, and volunteers.
  • Assist with Mobile Market event planning, setup, and execution.
  • Obtain signatures and maintain documentation at distribution sites.
  • Represent MFB professionally at community events and related functions.
  • Perform other duties to support Mobile Market operations.

Job description

The Maryland Food Bank (MFB) is a nonprofit, anti-hunger organization whose mission is to feed people, strengthen communities, and end hunger for more Marylanders. MFB does this work by expanding access to nutritious food while also seeking to eliminate the root causes of hunger.

MFB’s distributes food through a statewide network of community-based organizations from Maryland’s western mountains to its Eastern Shore. Last year, the Maryland Food Bank distributed enough food to provide the equivalent of more than 41 million meals, or about 114,000 meals every day. This healthy food supports children, seniors, veterans, and hard-working families. Beyond food distribution, MFB works to end hunger for more Marylanders by offering job training programs, access to supportive services and benefits, and by advocating to change to the laws, policies, and practices that create food insecurity for more than 1 in 3 Marylanders.

About the position:

The Mobile Market Driver safely transports and distributes food through MFB’s Mobile Market Program while supporting event setup, product handling, and vehicle operations. This customer-facing role serves as an ambassador for MFB, providing professional, respectful, and compassionate service to community partners and neighbors.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Safely operate MFB vehicles and transport food to assigned sites at scheduled delivery times.
  • Ensure vehicles are properly loaded before departure and maintain accurate daily vehicle inspection logs.
  • Follow all food safety, occupational safety, and transportation requirements.
  • Load and offload food products and assist neighbors with shopping during Mobile Market distributions.
  • Provide welcoming, respectful customer service to neighbors, community partners, and volunteers.
  • Assist with Mobile Market event planning, preparation, setup, facilitation, and overall execution.
  • Obtain required signatures and maintain accurate documentation at distribution sites.
  • Represent the Maryland Food Bank professionally at community events and related functions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to support Mobile Market operations and food distribution efforts.

Basic Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred; a combination of education and relevant experience will be considered.
  • At least three (3) years of customer service-related experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with an acceptable MVR, including no prior DUI/DWIs and fewer than two (2) points.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen, including marijuana, and background check.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to multitask effectively in a high-demand environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to build positive, respectful relationships with individuals from diverse communities, backgrounds, and lived experiences.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
  • Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn and troubleshoot purchasing, order, and/or sales management systems.
  • Ability to successfully complete required MFB vehicle training.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience operating a non-CDL box truck.
  • Experience supporting community-based programs, events, or food distribution activities.
  • Experience using purchasing, order, and/or sales management systems.

Supervisory Responsibility:

  • This position has no direct supervisory responsibility.
  • Work is performed in a warehouse environment with outdoor exposure and regular interaction with forklifts, delivery vehicles, and other material handling equipment.
  • Regular lifting of up to 50 pounds and the safe movement of heavier loads using material handling equipment, including electric pallet jacks.
  • Safe operation of Maryland Food Bank vehicles as part of assigned delivery and pick-up routes.
  • Work in refrigerated and freezer environments with temperatures as low as -5°F, while maintaining a strong commitment to food safety and workplace safety practices.

Pay Information:

  • $22/ per hour
