Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania's Department of Transportation, Bureau of Driver Licensing, is seeking a Driver License Examiner w/CDL to assess applicants' readiness for the road, applying judgment, clear communication, and attention to detail every day.

You will administer tests, review identity documents, verify residency, and issue driver licenses and IDs, with a steady schedule (8:15 AM–4:45 PM, Tue–Sat, 80 hours bi-weekly) and no telework.

Qualifications

• One year of experience as a Driver License Examiner Assistant or two years of experience obtaining, evaluating, and providing information to the public.
• Active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C Driver’s License and 21+ years of age at time of application.
• Must obtain an active Class M driver’s license within six months of employment and maintain it during employment.
• Active Class A Pennsylvania Commercial Driver's License with endorsements P and N; no restricted CDL restrictions (E, L, N, O, Z).

Responsibilities

• Determine physical qualifications, driving ability, and vehicle safety conditions.
• Conduct vision screenings and knowledge examinations for commercial and non-commercial applicants.
• Administer pre-trip, maneuverability, and road tests according to standards.
• Review identity and residency documents to confirm authenticity and detect fraud.
• Provide information on licensing processes, renewals, transfers, and credentials.
• Issue driver licenses and identification cards and complete required transactions.
