Driver I

Introduction

Overview

The Driver I will operate a commercial small truck or van (weighing under 26,000 lbs.) to make safe and efficient deliveries and pickups. The Driver I should hold a valid driver's license. Spur Drivers are responsible for safely and accurately delivering and picking up cargo, keeping accurate driving logs, and inspecting and maintaining the company trucks.

Responsibilities

  • Drive truck to and from specified destinations safely, following all state, local laws, and DOT regulations.
  • Focus on safety and compliance, including real-time reporting of accidents, incidents, monitoring road conditions, and following traffic laws.
  • Handle general fleet maintenance, including fueling, cleaning, washing windows, and reporting maintenance needs.
  • Prepare receipts for loads and bills of lading.
  • Maintain driver hours of service using electronic logs, ensuring rest periods according to regulations.
  • Ensure compliance with DOT and other regulations.
  • Communicate with supervisors regarding route status, stops, breaks, and clock-out times.
  • Ensure timely client deliveries by anticipating challenges and departing on time.
  • Inspect truck equipment and supplies, verify freight paperwork.
  • Perform emergency roadside repairs, secure cargo with proper equipment, load bars, straps, etc.
  • May load/unload truck and operate forklift or pallet jack when not driving.
  • Destination may be Short Haul or Long Haul.
  • Maintain a clean work environment and follow safety policies.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Wage range: $17.52 - $27.22, varies by location and experience.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in reading and writing English, knowledge of airport codes and basic geography.
  • Detail-oriented, able to work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Participates actively in safety policies and activities.
  • Current Medical Card.
  • Acceptable Motor Vehicle Record (MVR).
  • Must be TSA-certified and obtain an STA number upon employment.
  • Pass DOT physical and road test.
  • No more than three (3) moving violations in the past 36 months.
  • No preventable accidents involving fatality or serious injuries in the past three years.
