Job summary

Kehoe Designs in Chicago, IL is seeking a dependable Driver / Event Installer / Trainer to support on-site events. You will operate company vehicles, load and unload décor, set up and strike displays, and ensure safety and compliance with USDOT/FMSCA regulations.

This role reports to the Event Logistics Manager and collaborates with staff to deliver seamless client experiences. Ideal candidates have 2–4 years of driving experience, ability to read English, and a CDL is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • 2–4 years driving experience preferred.
  • Up to 1 year of event set-up experience preferred.
  • Ability to read and speak English.
  • CDL license preferred.
  • Knowledge of USDOT/FMSCA requirements is helpful.
  • Proof of clean driving record required.

Responsibilities

  • Drive company vehicles to events, loads, delivers, and sets up décor.
  • Secure cargo and comply with safety guidelines to prevent damage.
  • Follow USDOT, FMCSA, and IDOT regulations while operating vehicles.
  • Complete driving logs and vehicle inspections accurately and on time.
  • Load/unload props, furniture, and décor for events.
  • Assemble, install, and uninstall décor items at venues.
  • Ensure venues are clean and damage-free; return items to storage.

Job Title: Non-DOT and DOT Class C Driver / Event Installer / Trainer
Location: Chicago, IL – Onsite
Job Description:

The Driver/Event Installer operates company vehicles to transport staff, décor, and equipment to events, clients, vendors, and venues. They are responsible for loading, unloading, and setting up or striking event décor. This role reports to the Event Logistics Manager and Assistant Manager and may take directions from other event and logistics leaders.

Essential Duties | What You’ll Do:
  • Drives company vehicles to transport staff, décor, and equipment to events, clients, vendors, and venues on schedule.
  • Ensures timely pick-ups, deliveries, and vehicle loading/unloading.
  • Secures cargo according to safety guidelines to prevent injury, damage, and breakage.
  • Follows all federal and state transportation regulations (USDOT, FMCSA, IDOT).
  • Ensures vehicle and passenger safety, parking legally, and securing vehicles properly.
  • Completes USDOT/FMSCA driving logs and vehicle inspections accurately and on time.
  • Reports vehicle performance issues and maintains vehicle cleanliness.
  • Loads, unloads, and transports props, furniture, and décor to and from events.
  • Assembles, installs, and uninstalls décor items such as bars, furniture, backdrops, and lighting fixtures.
  • Works carefully to minimize damage, ensures event venues are clean and damage-free.
  • Returns items to proper storage locations.
Requirements:
  • Must be 21 years of age.
  • 2-4 years of driving experience preferred.
  • Up to 1 year of event set-up experience preferred.
  • Ability to understand, read and speak English.
  • CDL license preferred.
  • Knowledge of USDOT and FMSCA requirements is helpful.
  • Proof of clean driving record required.
  • Strong knowledge of safe vehicle usage and Illinois rules of the road required.
  • Ability to interpret pull sheets.
  • Familiarity with proper packing methods is helpful.
Physical and Work Environment Requirements | What it is Like at the Work Site
  • Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, bend and reach during entire work shift.
  • Able to walk 50% of the work shift.
  • Ability to work with hands and arms during entire shift.
  • Must be able to move and climb ladders without accommodation.
  • Ability to work in high lift.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push and pull 30-50 lbs. repeatedly throughout the shift. Occasionally may move up to and 50 lbs. to over 100 lbs. with assistance.
  • Ability to handle fragile items safely.
  • Must have 20/20 vision with correction.
  • Must be able to tolerate cold, heat and humid conditions.
  • Ability to tolerate moderate to loud noise.

  • Overtime pay will be provided for hours worked beyond 40 in a workweek at 1.5x the regular rate of pay, in compliance with Illinois labor laws.
