Job summary

Gerdau Ameristeel Corp. is seeking a CDL A Driver in Tennessee to operate factory vehicles and haul steel products from suppliers. You will load, tie down loads, and comply with all DOT regulations while maintaining accurate records.

Responsibilities include delivering and picking up for various trailers, using GPS, keeping trip reports, and maintaining professional relations with customers and suppliers. Benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401K, life insurance, EAP, and tuition

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Must have current/valid Class A CDL.
• Tanker and HazMat endorsements are a plus.
• At least 9 months of experience with large mobile equipment or hauling vehicles.
• Smartphone/web experience to utilize GPS.
• Microsoft Office and internet-based applications proficiency.
• SAP experience is helpful.
• Familiar with DOT regulations and load restrictions.
• Able to read, write, add, and subtract and follow written/verbal instructions.
• Flexibility to work in various weather conditions.
• Customer service experience.

Responsibilities

• Operate standard factory-equipped diesel straight truck and tractor with roll-off trailers, dump trailers, and van trailers to pick up steel products and accessories from Gerdau suppliers.
• Follow standard or prescribed methods or procedures.
• Perform a full range of duties, ensuring safe operation and DOT compliance in loading and transporting loads.
• Work in a closed cab with weather protection; handle occasional unloading.
• Maintain compliance with safety and load regulations.

CDL A Driver

You have:

• High school diploma or GED is preferred.
• Must have a current/valid Class A CDL.
• Tanker and HazMat endorsement(s) is plus.
• Must have at least 9 months of experience with large mobile equipment or hauling vehicles.
• Smartphone/web experience required to utilize GPS.
• Computer skills including Microsoft Office and internet-based applications.
• SAP experience is helpful.
• Familiar with traffic regulations and load restrictions.
• Able to read, write, add, and subtract and to follow written or verbal instructions.
• Flexibility to work in a variety of weather conditions
• Customer service experience.

Your Work:

• Operate standard factory-equipped diesel straight truck and tractor with roll-off trailers, dump trailers and van trailers to pick-up a variety of steel products and accessory items from Gerdau steel suppliers.
• Follow standard or prescribed methods or procedures.
• Work involves a complete range of duties, somewhat repetitive and routine in nature, requiring considerable care to drive tractor/trailer vehicle in a correct and safe manner, properly loading of trucks, and compliance with all DOT laws, rules, and regulations.
• Good working conditions in closed truck cab free from weather elements except in occasional unloading.
• Subject to some noise, vibration, and fumes, but none to the extent of being disagreeable.

• Make deliveries and/or pick-ups, operating from verbal, written or electronic instructions, invoices, bills of lading, shipping tickets, etc.
• Keep accurate and legible records such as Driver's Trip Reports, Driver's Daily Log, Vehicle Inspection Report, and Driver's Weekly Expense Report.
• Maintain polite, courteous, and diplomatic relations with either customers, receivers, or suppliers with whom contact is made.
• May be required to contact the supplier for location/placement of roll-off bin.
• Assist loading or unloading; unload without help as necessary; tie down the load with chains or cinches; attach markers for overhang.
• Light physical effort consisting of continuous light exertion in driving, frequent effort in tying down the loads, and assisting unloading.
• Continuous mental and visual attention in coordinating a good degree of manual dexterity with close visual attention for sustained periods.

• Clean vehicle on a regular basis.
