Job summary

Waste Management is seeking a Driver Apprentice to train with a WM Driver or Driver Trainer after obtaining a Commercial Driving Permit. The role focuses on safely operating a commercial refuse/recycling vehicle and completing required training to become a WM Driver.

Responsibilities include on‑route support, performing inspections, and maintaining clear communication with Route Manager and Dispatch to ensure timely service and safety on every run.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• Legally eligible to work in the United States.
• Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
• Driver's License commercial or non‑commercial Class C or D, upon hire or CDL permit.

Responsibilities

• Combined Driver Apprentice responsibilities: train with WM Driver or Trainer after CDL permit and complete required training.
• Operate WM vehicles safely following Safety rules, OSHA and DOT requirements and applicable laws.
• Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and document checks.
• Report unsafe situations to Route Manager or Dispatch.
• Attend training sessions and assist with route optimization and customer requests.
