Job summary

Trulee Evanston in Evanston, IL seeks a full-time driver to transport residents to shopping, appointments, and events, prioritizing safety and compassion. Must have a valid driver’s license and at least one year of bus-driving experience.

The role requires ability to assist residents aboard with wheelchair lifts or steps and to perform daily vehicle inspections, keep the bus clean, and adhere to safety procedures. A clean driving record and background check are required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Safely operate and maintain a passenger bus for daily and weekly routes (shopping, medical appointments, community events, etc.).
• Assist residents on and off the bus using the wheelchair lift or steps, including handling oxygen tanks, walkers, and wheelchairs.
• Perform daily vehicle inspections (fuel, fluids, lights, brakes) and coordinate any needed repairs or servicing.
• Keep the bus clean inside and out—vacuum, wipe down surfaces, dispose of trash, and wash exterior as needed.
• Follow all safety and emergency procedures to ensure passenger protection.
• Engage warmly with residents, reporting any concerns about their health or well-being to management.
• Support special events (e.g., bingo) and run errands for the community as requested.

What We’re Looking For

• Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; at least one year of bus-driving experience. Prior work with older adults is a plus.
• Communication & Compassion: Exceptional verbal and written skills, with genuine care for seniors and their families.
• Technical Skills: Comfortable with large passenger vehicles, wheelchair lifts, and basic vehicle maintenance checks.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to pass a health screening and perform physical tasks like lifting equipment.
• Personal Qualities: Patient, courteous, and calm under pressure; strong integrity and teamwork spirit.
• Compliance: Clean driving record and successful criminal background check (per Title 22 requirements).
