Job summary

Diamond Parking in Alaska is seeking a Driver to operate mini-buses, vans, shuttles and other vehicles for client transport on assigned schedules. This role requires compliance with driving laws, professional interaction with customers, and daily vehicle cleanliness and safety.

The ideal candidate will have a valid state driver's license, 1 year certificate or 3–6 months related experience, ability to read and follow instructions, and strong basic math skills for logs and inspections.

Qualifications

  • One year certificate from college or technical school, or 3-6 months related experience.
  • Valid state-issued driver's license and proof of insurance; pass driving test.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions and safely operate vehicles.

Responsibilities

  • Operate mini-bus, van/shuttle, plow truck, sander, and/or snow blower as required; drive vehicles safely following schedules and state DMV laws; use seatbelts and adjust driving to weather and road conditions.
  • Maintain courteous and professional relationships with customers, vendors, co-workers, and management.
  • Maintain a clean, neat, professional appearance; wear identification badge and designated uniform while on duty.
  • Maintain punctual and regular attendance; accurately record time worked; complete daily trip logs and vehicle inspection reports.
  • Inspect vehicle at the start and end of shifts for damage and mechanical issues; ensure cleanliness inside and outside the vehicle; refuel and service vehicles as needed.
  • Assist disabled passengers with vehicle entry/exit; operate wheelchair lifts and secure wheelchairs safely.
  • Operate communication devices for work purposes only; promptly report any vehicle damage or issues to supervisors.
  • Adhere to internal audit policies regarding handling and depositing money or other assigned duties; compliance is required.

Job Title: Driver

Reports To: Operations Manager / City Manager / General Manager

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Work Schedule: This role is required to work during normal business hours with occasional weekend or after-hours work as needed.

Work Location: In-person at assigned Diamond Parking facilities or client locations, including potential travel between Canada and the USA as required.

Position Overview

The Driver is responsible for safely operating mini-buses, vans, shuttles, and other vehicles to transport clients according to assigned schedules. This role requires adherence to all driving laws, professional interaction with customers, and maintenance of vehicle cleanliness and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Vehicle Operation: Operate mini-bus, van/shuttle, plow truck, sander, and/or snow blower as required; drive vehicles safely following schedules and state DMV laws; use seatbelts and adjust driving to weather and road conditions.
  • Customer Service: Maintain courteous and professional relationships with customers, vendors, co-workers, and management, embodying the principle "Treat others as you would want to be treated."
  • Appearance and Conduct: Maintain a clean, neat, professional appearance; wear identification badge and designated uniform while on duty.
  • Attendance and Reporting: Maintain punctual and regular attendance; accurately record time worked; complete daily trip logs and vehicle inspection reports.
  • Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance: Inspect vehicle at the start and end of shifts for damage and mechanical issues; ensure cleanliness inside and outside the vehicle; refuel and service vehicles as needed.
  • Passenger Assistance: Assist disabled passengers with vehicle entry/exit; operate wheelchair lifts and secure wheelchairs safely.
  • Communication: Operate communication devices (pager, radio) for work purposes only; promptly report any vehicle damage or issues to supervisors.
  • Compliance and Security: Adhere to internal audit policies regarding handling and depositing money or other assigned duties; failure to comply may result in disciplinary action, up to termination.
Supervisory Responsibilities

This role does not have direct supervisory responsibilities but regularly collaborates with other departments and staff to ensure operational coordination.

Required Qualifications
  • Education/Experience: One year certificate from college or technical school, or 3-6 months related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Language Skills: Ability to read, write, and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos; effective communication in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Licenses: Valid state-issued driver's license and proof of insurance. Must pass company driving skills test.
  • Knowledge and Abilities: Basic math skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide); ability to apply common sense to follow written and oral instructions safely and effectively.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Physical: Regularly required to stand, walk, sit, climb stairs, kneel, stoop, crouch, and reach with hands and arms. Frequently lift/move up to 50 pounds; occasionally up to 70 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
  • Work Environment: Frequent exposure to outside weather conditions including heat, snow, ice, and cold. Exposure to moving mechanical parts and moderate noise levels.
  • Other: Must be able to transfer or relocate to another facility/location without notice as needed.
