Job summary

Ford Motor Company’s Under Body Systems Engineering (UnSE) team seeks an Automotive Driveline / Propulsion System Engineer to develop, integrate, and validate driveline systems for ICE, hybrid, and EV powertrains. You will lead the lifecycle from concept through validation, collaborating with cross-functional teams including ICE, EV, NVH, Manufacturing, and Program Management.

The role requires a strong foundation in transmissions, gearboxes, and electric drive units, plus experience with EV

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field (Master's preferred)
  • Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in automotive system engineering with a focus on powertrain, driveline, transmission, propulsion, or vehicle systems
  • Experience with driveline systems supporting ICE, manual transmission, hybrid, and/or EV applications
  • Proven experience with EV powertrains, including PDUs, SDUs, eBeams, high-voltage battery interfaces, and thermal management strategies
  • Strong knowledge of driveline mechanics, including transmissions, gears, differentials, clutches, axle assemblies, and electric drive systems
  • Experience working directly with automotive suppliers and managing technical deliverables throughout the product development process
  • Familiarity with control systems and calibration for driveline and powertrain applications
  • 2+ years of experience in vehicle electrification or a related automotive engineering domain
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to build relationships across all functions and organizational levels

Responsibilities

  • Integrate new driveline systems and driveline features into existing and future ICE, hybrid, and electric vehicle architectures
  • Lead the development, integration, validation, and launch support of driveline systems, including manual transmissions, conventional driveline components, and electric drive units
  • Provide technical driveline system support throughout all phases of vehicle development to ensure robust program execution and performance
  • Work with program teams to understand the required functional and physical properties of driveline systems and subsystems
  • Ensure linkage to System DFMEA and Manufacturing PFMEA activities
  • Collaborate with suppliers, Vehicle Engineering, Controls, Manufacturing, and Program Teams to deliver system and subsystem interfaces
  • Serve as the primary technical interface with suppliers to manage engineering deliverables, issue resolution, timing, validation testing, and launch readiness
  • Lead supplier technical reviews and support component sourcing, design reviews, validation, and production readiness activities
  • Identify, track, and resolve engineering issues related to driveline system performance, durability, quality, manufacturability, and customer satisfaction
  • Manage commodity controls/software engineering signoff activities as required
  • Support component, subsystem, and vehicle-level testing, including bench, dyno, and vehicle validation
  • Support program launches and production issue resolution

Ford Motor Company's Under Body Systems Engineering (UnSE) team within Product Development is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Automotive Driveline / Propulsion System Engineer to join our innovative engineering team. This critical role involves the development, integration, and validation of driveline systems for traditional Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicles, manual transmission applications, and next-generation Electric Vehicle (EV) powertrains. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of system-level engineering, transmission and driveline technologies, electric motor systems, gearboxes, system safety, and overall vehicle performance.

This position provides the opportunity to work in a global, fast-paced, collaborative environment with exposure to several cross-functional areas including ICE powertrain systems, manual transmissions, Electric Vehicle systems, NVH, Vehicle Operations, Tier 1/2 Suppliers, Manufacturing, and Program Management.
